DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent receives, assembles, installs, moves and repairs furniture. Coordinates and carries out logístical activities related to student, faculty, and staff events. Organizes and prioritizes work requests to meet multiple deadlines for various college and university needs and functions.

Performs preventative maintenance and routine checks on a wide variety of furniture systems and related equipment throughout the facility. Maintains a physical inventory of classroom and office furniture; transports various items between campuses and other locations as required.

Provides backup for co-worker responsible for picking up and delivering mail/courier/Shipping to 3 satellite campuses. Transports/delivers bulk supplies beyond the scope of mailroom deliveries. Assists skilled tradespersons as necessary.

  • Hanging boards, name plates, and pictures when this activity constitutes a minor or ancillary service as part of overall office move.
  • Assembles, installs, and repairs classroom and office furniture for college and university departments.
  • Performs preventative maintenance of furniture by conducting routine inspections. Orders parts needed for repair (eg. tables, chairs, furniture, etc.)
  • Close work requests upon completion in a timely manner with appropriate information. Ensures continuity of work to completion.
  • Recommends appropriate furniture and equipment layout for special function and conferences. Coordinates activities with outside vendors, college and university staff, rental/party companies, etc.
  • Monitors and maintains classroom capacities of furniture and related equipment
  • Operate a fork lift and hand pump truck
  • Ship and receive all deliveries entering the loading area, verifies packages, signing packing slips, checking for and reporting observable damages, open all packages, count and record, enter shortages.
  • Delivers large and/or bulk items from shipping to all Campuses using specialized equipment such as forklift trucks and handcarts. Ensures specialized academic equipment is handled appropriately in accordance with manufacturers or staff instruction.
  • Provides emergency cleanup when/where required on an ad hoc or emergency basis. Cleans and maintains furniture storage areas inventory control.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid class G Drivers License is required.
  • Forklift Operator/Hand Cart Safety training is required.
  • A minimum of 1year of experience with forklift operation and shipping/receiving environment
  • A minimum of 3years experience in areas of carpentry, design and installation of office furniture systems.
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods training, Radioactive Goods training, WHMIS and First Aid certification is an asset.
  • Understanding of and experience in asset management.
  • Knowledge of the Occupation Health and Safety Act.
  • Must demonstrate mechanical aptitude in the use of hand/power tools and appropriate lifting and moving techniques.
  • Basic understanding of data/voice cabling connection requirements with respect to integrated office/classroom furniture.
