We're seeking a
Head Brewer to join our team.

The Head Brewer is responsible for all aspects of the brewing process and the day-to-day operations of the brewing team with a focus on managing other brewers, maintaining brewing equipment and obsessing over the quality of beer leaving our facility.

The Head Brewer is a key position who must be a self-starter with great energy, a true passion for craft beer and spirits and enjoy working as part of a team and collaborating with others.


Key Responsibilities

Brewing Operations:


  • Ensure that the production process is running correctly, efficiently and brewing and processing conditions are ideal to exceed Wellington's quality standards
  • Lead with innovation and creativity when developing new beers including recipe research, development and formulation of brewing and cellaring procedures
  • Maintaining detailed records of the beer production process including raw materials, recipe, scientific analysis and final taste testing of all brands produced in our facilities
  • Responsible for reviewing the production site's master schedule and executing resulting schedules for brewing operations while ensuring optimal cost and time efficiencies to meet weekly targets
  • Executing community outreach pilot brews including communication on recipes, timelines, release notes, and packaging schedule
  • Reviewing and updating the brewhouse system with all recipes and special requirements for all brands brewed by Wellington
  • Organize team meetings, address brewing team concerns, upcoming strategies and new procedures to ensure ongoing best brewing practices
  • Ensuring brewers are always adhering to specific recipes, procedures and assisting with corrective measures to maintain industry best quality and integrity of beer
  • Stepping in and aide in all departments at the production facility when required, including but not limited to brewing, yeast management, cellaring, and packaging
  • Creatively develop small batch brews, beer profiles, resourcing materials and educating other team members on the process, presenting beer launches and internal educating efforts through beer education sessions

Quality:


  • Oversee cleaning, sanitation and maintenance of Brewhouse ensuring ongoing optimal brewing conditions to minimize beer production delays
  • Complete daily inspections of the facility area and implement continuous improvement strategies for day to day tasks
  • Continually develop and implement a year round maintenance and preventative maintenance schedule while maintaining budget and documentation of maintenance tasks
  • Assist with leading maintenance alterations under the direction of the Plant Manager

Health & Safety:


  • Creation and maintenance of safe operating procedures for the brewing team, determining training needs and validate completion of training
  • Understanding all safety standards, chemical handling and ppe requirements and ensuring staff compliance
  • Champion a clean and tidy facility including general cleaning responsibilities and areas for continuous improvement
  • Ensuring staff are working in a safe environment, using proper body mechanics and addressing concerns in conjunction with the JHSC

  • Friday and able to work afternoons/evenings/weekends as required
  • Leadership experience within a production environment is a must
  • A passion for the craft beer industry, great beer, spirits, and a motivation to develop industry leading products
  • Robust understanding of the science of brewing
  • Strong understanding of equipment and experience in preventative maintenance of brewing equipment
  • Exceptional focus, organizational skills, meticulous attention to details with beer quality, sanitation and safety
  • Excellent interpersonal skills must be a dynamic team player

Qualifications:


  • Post
- secondary education in a related field is a must

  • Able to lift 50 lbs repetitively
  • Able to work at heights
  • Able to work in hot and cold conditions
  • Forklift/Walkie Certification (an asset)
  • Emergency First Aid
