Summary
This position is responsible for conducting Parks patrols and achieving compliance with the Capital Regional District Parks Bylaw.


Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • With a focus of obtaining compliance through cooperation, conducts Park patrols to ensure that patrons are educated about and comply with the CRD Parks Bylaw. Uses enforcement action including use of force and arrests only when necessary and as outlined by CRD Policy.
  • Contacts other agencies as required and outlined by policy/guidelines when encountering noncompliant patrons.
  • Reports all serious events that occur while on shift immediately to the Chief Bylaw Officer and/or Senior Bylaw Officer.
  • Prepares, completes and submits to the Chief Bylaw Officer and/or Senior Bylaw Officer Parks patrol reports for each shift
  • Follows all policies, procedures, guidelines and standards of the CRD, including but not limited to: CRD bylaw policies, procedures and guidelines; CRD communications and media, human resources, legislative and administrative services, and financial services policies, procedures and guidelines; and related.
  • Creates books of evidence and prosecutes disputed municipal ticket they have issued.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Strong ability to prepare clear and concise written reports for the supervisor.
  • Strong MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and SharePoint skills.
  • Strong ability to perform a wide variety of activities in all types of weather conditions and terrain.
  • Thorough knowledge of the CRD Parks bylaw.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduation
  • Bylaw enforcement and/or auxiliary or reserve constable training
  • A minimum of 2 years' directly related experience

Certifications

  • Acceptable criminal record check. The applicant/incumbent is required to undergo a criminal record check to work in this position and to report to their supervisor if any criminal charges are laid against them that may be related to their employment.
  • Use of Force Certification
  • ASP Expandable Baton Use
  • OC Spray Use
  • Valid BC Driver's Licence
