Put your superior analytical skills to work with the City of Edmonton's Safe Mobility Section The Safe Mobility Section provides leadership toward the City of Edmonton's efforts to achieve Vision Zero, zero traffic-related fatalities, and serious injuries, by 2032.

The Section consists of three units to support the work of the Safe Mobility Strategy, :
Engineering, Automated Enforcement, and Planning and Community Activation.

Reporting to the Team Lead of Planning and Evaluation, the Safe Mobility Analyst will be part of the Planning and Community Activation unit and support the entire Safe Mobility section with evidence-based analysis, recommendations and action.


Working collaboratively within the Section, you will use a variety of datasets, lived experience, literature reviews, and crash and equity analysis to develop data driven solutions that lead to improved safe mobility outcomes.

You will use your work to develop messages and storytelling for Council reports, memos, financial reports and other stakeholder documents as well as for public facing communications.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Use your analytical skills to identify, evaluate and diagnose trends in traffic safety related data including collisions, traffic conflicts, volume, speed, violations, survey data, and traffic flow
  • Review and analyze safety data to inform a citywide priority list of locations for action through corporate transportation and citybuilding programs and projects
  • Communicate the results of safety analysis for various audiences through reports and presentations to internal and external stakeholders as required
  • Lead and prepare Safe Mobility Technical Analysis reports and support the Section and other departments/work teams in understanding safety and livability impacts for transportation and citybuilding work across the corporation
  • Support the development of the Vision Zero Annual Report and ongoing update of other public information
  • With a continuous improvement mindset and approach, constantly look for ways to provide improvements and enhancements to programs
  • Support scheduling of mobile automated enforcement and placement of permanent driver feedback signs
  • Conduct research on emerging technologies related to road safety engineering and compile reports and recommendations on the applicability of these technologies in Edmonton
  • Incorporate various qualitative information in your analysis, including considering lived experience and equity considerations
  • Develop surveys, review and synthesize results to transform data into information that can be used to improve traffic safety and develop evidence supported recommendations
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications:


  • University degree where research, statistical analysis, and report writing was applied
  • Graduate degree would be an asset.
  • Four (4) years of analytical experience including research and synthesizing information for decision making purposes and report preparation
  • Proficient in Google Applications, Microsoft Office Suite, Tableau Software, SPSS and R, as well as other data visualization tools
  • Ability to use advanced statistical and analytical approaches to:
  • Evaluate and measure the impact of our programs
  • Develop and report on Key Performance Indicators
  • Hire is dependent on a Criminal Record Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability in writing policy, reports, strategy papers, technical briefs and other communication materials
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills and the ability to summarize, and present findings to senior management, as well as internal and external stakeholders who do not have the technical expertise
