Job Summary:


Reporting to the Superintendent, CEO, the Manager, Communications and Research leads the development and execution of comprehensive communication strategies to enhance the school division's reputation, engage stakeholders, and foster positive relationships within the community.

This position leads the tracking and analysis of communication initiatives' effectiveness, identifies areas for improvement, and makes related recommendations.

The position is responsible for leading the collection and analysis of data from divisional and provincial sources to generate reports and support evidence-based decision making.

The Manager takes part in program reviews and assessment of educational initiatives by collaborating with various stakeholders to gather information, design research methodologies, and present findings effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:_


Communications

  • Strategic Communications Planning
  • Develop and implement a strategic communications plan that aligns with the division's goals, values, and priorities.
  • Identify key messages, target audiences, and communication channels to effectively deliver consistent and engaging communications.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Cultivate positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including parents, students, teachers, staff, community organizations, local media, and government officials.
  • Regularly collaborate with these groups to understand their needs, address concerns, and ensure effective communication.
  • Media Relations
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries, develop media relations strategies, and fosters positive relationships with media stakeholders.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to promote the division's achievements, initiatives, and events through press releases, interviews, and media campaigns.
  • Crisis Communications
  • Collaborate to develop crisis communication protocols to effectively manage and mitigate communication challenges during emergencies, sensitive incidents, or reputational issues.
  • Respond promptly and accurately to crises, ensuring consistent messaging and transparency.
  • Content Development
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of compelling written, visual, and multimedia content for various communication channels, including websites, social media platforms, newsletters, press releases, and presentations.
  • Ensure content is accurate, accessible, and aligned with the division's brand.
  • Internal Communications
  • Collaborate to develop effective internal communication strategies to ensure consistent messaging and alignment among divisional staff, schools, and departments.
  • Develop and distribute internal newsletters, announcements, and updates to keep staff informed and engaged.

Research

  • Data Collection, Analysis and Reporting
  • Retrieve, compile, and analyze data from divisional and provincial sources.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports based on data, highlighting key findings, trends, and recommendations.
  • Present data in a clear and concise manner, using visualizations, charts, and narratives to convey information effectively.
  • Program Evaluation
  • Conduct program reviews and evaluations to assess the effectiveness and impact of educational initiatives.
  • Develop evaluation frameworks, design survey instruments, conduct interviews, and analyze qualitative and quantitative data to provide evidencebased insights.
  • Leadership
  • Provide training, guidance, and coaching to Communication and Research team members.
  • Stays abreast of legislation and regulations changes and current issues related to communications (e.g., accessibility regulations)

Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:_


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or equivalent qualifications communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, statistics, social sciences, arts, or a related field.
  • Several years of experience in communications, research, or a related role, preferably in the education sector or a similarly complex public organization.
  • Proven experience in strategic communications planning, crisis management, stakeholder engagement
  • Media relations experience including demonstrated ability to foster positive relationships with media stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in data analysis, research methodologies, and report writing.
  • Knowledge of Canadian education policies, trends, and issues is highly desirable.

Skills and abilities

  • Strong verbal, writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to craft compelling and concise messages for diverse audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders and lead a team.
