    Description

    The Fleet Manager - Fleet Management Program (FM FMP) is responsible for the overall productivity, performance, and satisfaction of their assigned carriers. The FM FMP will accomplish this through ongoing review of key performance indicators, followed by active participation in strategies to positively affect results. The FM FMP is expected to address issues that go beyond the scope of regular daily activity. Must be well organized, an excellent communicator and have a keen sense of timeliness in prioritizing personal and fleet management program activities.

    1) Carrier Utilization & Productivity: The primary responsibility of the FM FMP is to ensure that their assigned fleet of carrier trucks is utilized in the best interests of both the carrier and Bison Logistics. This responsibility means maximizing the total miles per truck to meet or exceed the set target. Specific responsibilities:

  • Personal involvement in day-to-day carrier trip execution and problem solving to support a positive carrier experience and maximize miles per day
  • Clear understanding of all tractor availability in order to ensure that capacity is fully captured by the planner
  • Regularly monitoring daily truck availability, both for current day and future availability
  • Active involvement in break-downs, both with the carrier and Bison OTR, to ensure down-time is minimized.
  • 2) Carrier Planning: The second key responsibility of the FM FMP is to ensure that their assigned carriers are planned based on their set availability (PTA). Solid planning ensures carrier utilization targets are met.

  • Proactively working through the planning group and outbound planner application to assign freight for carrier's available time and date. This includes outbound planning and reload planning in advance
  • Planning according to Bison Highway Planning Standards, ensuring plans are both achievable and productive to meet the service requirements of the customer
  • Involved in carrier selection on potential dedicated runs or scheduled departure times
  • 3) Carrier Management: This involves the ongoing management of carrier performance outside of utilization and planning, with a focus on company policy and procedures as per the FMP sign on contract. This includes:

  • Utilization
  • Level of Service
  • Tracing Compliance
  • Truck Posting
  • Safety and compliance issues.
  • Operational issues.
  • Carrier reviews.
  • 4) Carrier Retention: Carrier retention involves working on behalf of both the carrier and the company to resolve any day to day or long term issues in order to positively affect the carrier experience. This includes:

  • Forming a good working relationship with carrier contacts – including dispatch and ownership
  • Promptly resolving planning/customer service issues.
  • Promptly resolving maintenance issues
  • Carrier pay issue.
  • Any other carrier retention issues that may arise.
  • 5) Other Tasks: These involve any other duties that may be assigned from time to time. These may include:

  • Special projects.
  • Freight brokerage
  • Providing and participating in additional programs.
  • Any other job related tasks.

  • 1-3 years experience in the Transportation is a key asset.

  • Strong organizational skills with a clear sense of urgency about planning and executing work.
  • Ability to maintain composure, effectiveness and flexibility under pressure will be key to your success in this position.
