Your role


The Content Sales Consultant primarily contributes to the monetization of CBC/Radio-Canada's archive by negotiating, facilitating, and troubleshooting paid content use requests from a wide variety of external parties such as content producers, museums, and individuals.

This role requires excellent customer service and communication skills, time-management, an understanding of media rights, and the ability to work well with a wide group of colleagues.

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide sales support to archive sales clients, following different workflows in English and French.
  • Intake English archive use requests from external parties using the Jira ticketing system.
  • Interact with potential and ongoing English clients throughout the sales cycle, from assessing needs initially to determining rights & pricing to fulfilling delivery.
  • Interact with French clients with viable requests using Podio, and fulfill sales functions such as negotiating rights and executing paperwork.
  • Draft content & clip license agreements and waivers directly, and work with Legal on more complicated paperwork when needed.
  • Coordinate with Business & Rights to determine what restrictions are placed on content use, and whether clearances and other permissions are required.
  • Work with internal media librarians to determine the availability of assets and obtain access (English), or to coordinate on project viability, content advice and selections (French).
  • Liaise with business units to determine whether applicable requests comply with specific policies.
  • Generate billing requests for Finance and assist with payment troubleshooting.
  • Maintain accurate revenue records and centralized contract tracking.
  • Within established parameters, negotiate rates for licensing archival clips with clients.
  • Utilize internal systems such as Cumulus and Medoc Eureka to conduct research and access elements.
  • Support the Client Sales Support representatives in Toronto and the other Content Sales Consultant in Montreal by handling overflow licensing requests and covering annual leave.
  • Support Media Monitoring production on an ongoing basis, including by preparing regular transcripts.
  • Provide overall administrative backup for Media Monitoring production during annual leave.
  • Bilingualism in English and French (verbal and written).
  • Excellent customer service and external communications skills.
  • At least two years of progressive experience in either sales & customer service and/or media libraries & archival research, as well as a demonstrated background or interest in revenuegenerating activities.
  • Knowledge of ticketbased customer support systems like Jira and Podio is an asset.
  • Some experience working with legal templates is an asset.
  • A level of education equivalent to a High school diploma or higher.
  • Knowledge of media rights & clearances and content postproduction is an asset.
  • Knowledge of CBC/Radio-Canada is an asset.
  • Ability to manage multiple timesensitive demands and prioritize rapidly changing needs.
  • Comfortable with independent work in remote conditions.
