Reporting to the Manager, ITS Infrastructure, the Infrastructure Technical Analyst II - Network Analyst II will support the administration, optimization and maintenance of the College network environment.

Working in collaboration with leadership, senior network analyst, server support analysts and the Cybersecurity lead, the Network Analyst II will ensure stability and high performance of the College's various network components.

This includes supporting main campuses in Calgary, as well as the College's regional campuses.

This position will play a key role in building & maintaining processes and procedures for ongoing network changes and upgrades.

This position requires an individual who can assist with the management of small to medium sized projects, encompassing intensive researching, keen problem solving and high creativity skills to effectively design, support and maintain the systems.


Responsibilities:

**Continuous Service Improvement and Technical Expertise

  • Analysis, Design, and Implementation of Network Solutions 40%*
  • Will be tasked with supporting the following technologies:
  • Firewalls (i.e. Palo Alto)
  • Switching equipment such as Core Switches, ISP switches, Aggregate switches, and BGP routers.
  • Wifi Infrastructure
  • Monitoring Technologies: (ie. Solarwinds, SCOM)
  • Assists in designing, implementing and maintaining networks, working closely with the Network Analyst II and other ITS teams to guarantee fast and precise rollout of new technologies and products.
  • Monitoring, analysis, performance and capacity assessments of voice & data communications.
  • Assists in Planning & Implementation of improvements, system modifications, and technology refreshes for network infrastructure as per directions from leadership and Network Analyst III.
  • Assists in developing and maintaining services such as : Wireless LANs, Private LTE wireless, Low-Power WANs, virtualized networking, VPN/VRF/MPLS, advanced network security Cisco FirePower/ASA/AMP, Edge/Fog and cloud networking, SD-WAN and network automation, Routing, LANs, BGP/OSPF/dmVPN, Video Conferencing, collaboration and other technologies.
  • Assists in defining budget for network hardware & software.
  • Assists in procurement activities.
  • Conduct research/experimentation on network products, services, and standards as per direction from leadership and in collaboration with Network Analyst III.
  • Provide advanced network troubleshooting in absence of Network Analyst III (Switches, Routers, Wireless Access Points and aggregate Switches).
  • Participates in Change Management and cutover management activities where required.
  • Works on tasks in the network incident queue, and acts as first point of contact for incidents, providing timely resolution or escalation.
  • Perform port change requests as per procedure and documentation.
  • Perform other duties as may be required and assigned by the Manager

Operational Support of IT Infrastructure - 40%

  • As a key Network Infrastructure resource, coordinates and performs Tier 2 support activities.
  • Liaises with vendors through third level support activities.
  • Assists Desktop / Server Analysts and users with troubleshooting and resolving network related issues and assisting with firewall and port change requests.
  • Mentors and trains Junior and other intermediate staff.
  • Guides and mentors junior staff through first level diagnosis and resolution of network incidents and requests.
  • Assign network update / upgrade tasks to Junior staff for timely delivery and completion
  • Responsible for ensuring that ITSM processes are effective and adhered to by the team. This includes managing ticket queues, reviewing dashboards, managing continuous process maturity and improvements, and escalating to management when processes are breached.

Asset Management - 20%

  • Responsible for the Asset and Software Management processes procedures for Network sector of Infrastructure Team.
  • Ensures that Asset management processes are effective and adhered to.
  • Maintains asset tracking of Networking hardware, images, and peripherals.
  • Researches and tests new software when directed.
  • Installs software upgrades and enhancements.
  • Responds to the needs and inquires of IT peers/partners, staff, and faculty.
  • Coordinates team project backlogs and ticket Queues.
  • Responsible for documenting and updating diagrams in line with changes to environment.
