About the Program

About the Role


We are looking for a Scientific Associate with machine learning experience to join the PanCuRx Translational Research Initiative and our Machine Learning 4 Oncology team at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, University Health Network.

The team works in close collaboration with graduate students, bioinformaticians, clinicians, and other machine learning groups.

This role requires experience in using a range of ML/AI methodologies to complete the ML development cycle (research & data mining, model development & validation, and implementation).

You will work on novel research questions and translational healthcare technologies to facilitate the acceleration of cancer research, the identification of clinically-important biomarkers, and the understanding of patient populations.

You will have the option to work on-site or hybrid, with flex-hours.

  • Responsibilities:
  • Design, code, implement, and present data processing tools and analysis pipelines for a variety of different data types
  • Build predictive models, make improvements, and troubleshoot independently and with our team to solve novel problems
  • Interpret and communicate technical results and methods clearly with a wide range of audiences
  • Be well informed about current trends in ML and AI
  • Work openly and collaboratively; share knowledge with enthusiasm and empower your colleagues
  • Work on multiple concurrent projects and products, effectively following timelines, goals, and crossfunctional collaborations
  • Write reports, papers and reviews and present findings in journals and conferences
  • Qualifications:
  • PhD degree in machine learning, computer science, bioinformatics, statistics, applied mathematics or related disciplines, or masters degree in similar fields with 3+ years of experience
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to utilize a collaborative approach to solving challenging problems
  • Experience with Python (Scikitlearn, Pandas, etc.), deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow or PyTorch), version control (Git), and use of computing clusters
  • Experience with biomedical data types, topics, and scientific challenges and approaches preferred.
