We partner with donors to drive innovation and sustainable health care at VGH & UBC Hospital, GF Strong Rehab Centre, Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute and Vancouver Community Health Services.


About This Role


The Data Systems Analyst (DSA) ensures data integrity, accessibility, security, and the sustainment and development of an accurate and complete data management system.

The DSA maintains data integrity in Salesforce and our data warehouse, as well as peripheral systems such as the Tableau company site.

The main areas of focus for this role are ensuring data integrity - consistency and accuracy - in Salesforce and related data systems, maintaining and developing our data lifecycle functions such as archival and deletion, and participating in the Foundation's data governance processes.

The DSA is also responsible for training of Foundation employees to effectively utilize data systems, liaising with other departments to ensure procedures and policies are followed and improved as needed, and contributing to the strategy for the initiation, ongoing development, and delivery of high-quality information to support the overall objectives of the Foundation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Contributes to developing and sustaining data systems, soliciting feedback from product/data owners and end users, and recommending changes to the infrastructure to ensure the highest data quality possible
  • Performs data analysis, data loads and extractions and other functions related to working with and managing information in the fundraising database and related systems
  • Assesses and evaluates data lifecycle governance process such as backups and archiving; consults and facilitates changes with business processes with stakeholders to ensure consistency of data collection, planning and analytical processes
  • Identifies and acts on risks and opportunities for improvement in data management by developing and monitoring performance and quality control plans, creating, and implementing test plans for various data quality processes and coordinating with product/data owners to design data standards and ensure data quality and consistency
  • For technical, workflow or permission issues, including the importing of thirdparty data sources, proactively carries out the necessary research, diagnoses and reports problems, makes recommendations for solutions, and liaises with individuals or teams as required. Escalates programming issues to the Manager, governance committee or product owners as applicable
  • Proactively creates policy and process documentation, develops training resources, makes recommendations for data quality policy/procedures, and contributes to enduser manuals, and communications in advance of changes to the platform or processes. Gets approval from the Manager, governance committee or product owner as applicable and then implements
  • Ensures that definitions and documentation related to objects in Salesforce and the data warehouse are maintained
  • Provides inputs to data definitions, reconciliation, and records management by the use of data standards, definitions, and models (such as data dictionary, and business glossary.

What You Offer

  • A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics or Computer Science
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities typically seen after one (1) to two (2) years of experience in Computer Science or Data Systems.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational database management systems (e.g., MS SQL Server)
  • Experience or a strong interest in cloud platform development (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Demonstrated ability to perform data manipulation, analysis, and information presentation through theuse of database, business intelligence, and spreadsheet software
  • Highly developed ability to think critically and analytically while working in a fastpaced environment.
Respond to requested changes, validate needs against existing system capabilities and any futureproduct roadmap to provide optimal recommendations

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, and a keen interest in data utilization and data governance
  • Demonstrated organizational skills to generate work plans to meet project deadlines within timeline,scope, and budget
