Description
The Division of Hematology (Ottawa Blood Disease Centre) Department of Medicine of The Ottawa Hospital/University of Ottawa is experiencing significant clinical and academic growth.
We are seeking a
part-time academic
hematologist specializing in Benign Hematology to help us lead in clinical care, education and research by joining a community-based clinical practice with a part-time academic role.
The Ottawa Blood Disease Centre is a large group of 41 faculty members, 11 specializing in benign hematology, 3 working in joint community-faculty positions.
The Ottawa Hospital is a 1150 bed tertiary-care hospital serving Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec at four inpatient sites (Civic, General, Heart Institute, and the Rehabilitation Centre) and one ambulatory centre (Riverside).
The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI) is TOH's research arm.
It ranks fourth out of more than 600 Canadian hospitals for competitive, peer-reviewed grants from the prestigious Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
OHRI houses over 2,200 researchers, publishing more than 2,000 studies yearly, with hundreds being high impact publications (top 10% or citations) and places 5th overall in Canada for research funding.
The Department of Medicine is a research-intensive Department. Members currently hold 28 University Research Chairs.The Department receives approximately $60 million per year in external research funding and members publish approximately 1200 peer-reviewed publications annually.

The role of a joint community-faculty hematologist includes participation in hematology inpatient services, availability and supervision of hospital-based treatments and procedures through the three Ottawa Hospital Medical Daycare Units, plus shared central intake for benign hematology referrals.

The income for this position is derived from a variety of sources including but not limited to clinical billings (fee-for-service), salary support (AFP/APP) as well as honorariums/stipends.
