The Data Services team builds and shares the definitive source of high-quality data to support Ontario Health mandate.

The Specialist is a key member of the Data Acquisition Team and is responsible for supporting three key areas of work:

acquisition of new data for the enterprise therein working with internal and external stakeholders; intake of all requests for new data or new uses of existing data, analytic support, or business intelligence support from across the enterprise; and strategic data sourcing.

The Specialist's primary focus will be to support the data needs of the Mental Health and Addictions Centre of Excellence.


The Specialist, Acquisition will collaborate primarily with the Mental Health and Addictions Centre of Excellence to identify and effectively document business and data requirements and will support the Senior Specialist, Acquisition to act as a liaison with OH's data partners, helping to build and maintain effective relationships.

This role partners with the Legal and Privacy Team to support the development and execution of data sharing agreements as well as with the review of new uses of existing data.

This role also partners with the Digital Excellence in Health team to assess work required to support new acquisitions of data.

The Specialist also assists in the development of tools and templates that align with and inform strategic priorities.

This role requires knowledge and experience with healthcare administrative data; and collaborative approaches to conducting end-to-end acquisition of data in complex healthcare environments.


Here is what you will be doing:

  • Works collaboratively with internal stakeholders, primarily the Mental Health and Addictions Centre of Excellence, to gather business and data requirements through meetings, interviews, needs assessments and other techniques
  • Supports the Senior Specialist, Acquisition with the intake of internal requests to access existing OH data for a new/unapproved purpose
  • Works closely with the Legal and Privacy Team and Digital Excellence in Health to support the acquisition of data assets required to support the Mental Health and Addictions Centre of Excellence deliver on its mandate
  • Works closely with the Legal and Privacy Team in the development and execution of data sharing agreements
  • Acts as the SME for OH on the process to acquire data and the process by which OH employees may access data for a new purpose
  • Ensures data access and use processes adhere to Ontario Health's data protection and privacy procedures
  • Assists in the development and continual improvement of tools, templates and business processes required to execute on data acquisitions and requests for new uses of data-
  • Works proactively across the organization to identify data sources, data users, and data processes.
  • Works with business and IT partners to remediate identified gaps using both manual and automated solutions
  • Ensures sound data management practices and policies are consistently applied to OH's data assets
  • Supports knowledge transfer of data assets to other Ontario Health program areas and external partners where required
  • Provides project support, assisting with the data acquisition process and fact checking activities
  • Assists in the development of project plans, sequencing activities and inter-dependencies; proactively identifying, managing and escalating issues and risks as needed
Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience- Minimum completion of a bachelor's degree in public administration, health administration, health informatics or recognized equivalent- Master's degree in a related field is preferred- At minimum, 3-5 years of related experience as an analyst or related role and experience in the healthcare industry is preferred
