    Default job background
    Description

Bucksmore Education is rich in history and tradition, yet also innovative and challenging.

With 40 years of experience to refine and improve the quality of our esteemed summer schools, we take pride in the programmes we offer.

Our goal is to support every student in achieving their objectives within a safe and positive learning environment, whether this involves building on their language skills, developing essential 21st century leadership abilities and a global mindset or studying at a top UK boarding school or university.

    Programme Overview

Our summer school was modelled on American summer camps, featuring 'Counsellors' who live with students, teach lessons and lead excursions and activities, providing a higher level of pastoral care, guidance, and friendship – giving students more than just 'teachers' and 'activity leaders' at a summer school.

Working in summer schools is a rewarding experience for both students and staff, and Bucksmore aims to make our courses ones that our students never forget.

The Bucksmore philosophy is for students to mix with their fellow students and staff wherever possible to create a rich and genuinely international cultural experience.

    Locations

    Oxford and London

    Summer 2025

We are hiring engaging, motivated Centre Managers for memorable BC accredited EFL, Leadership and pre-University programmes teaching students aged 8-18 for summer 2025 in prestigious residential settings around the UK.

    Centre Manager Role

The Centre Manager (CM) role is responsible for the day-to-day management of a centre and is accountable for its smooth running. It is the most senior post at the centre.

The CM is in charge of all aspects of the centre, from managing finance, staffing and accommodation, dealing with clients and liaising with College staff. As the head of each senior management team, the CM will directly line manage and work closely with an Academic Manager and an Activities Manager to ensure the smooth and successful day-to-day running of the centre.

The CM is the Safeguarding Lead for the centre and will undergo Safeguarding specific training for this responsibility.

This is a challenging but rewarding opportunity.

    Main Responsibilities

    1. Ensuring that all necessary materials and equipment are in place at the centre in time for opening.
    2. Providing a comprehensive induction day for all staff that ensures they have a good overview of their roles at the centre, and the performance expectations.
    3. Holding regular meetings with all staff to ensure that the running of the centre is efficient and up to Bucksmore's high standards in all aspects of the academic and activity programme.
    4. Holding regular meetings with the appropriate college administrative staff (e.g., catering and accommodation managers) to allow for the smooth running of the centre.
    5. Liaising with the Head Office in respect of student numbers/expected arrivals, departures, or cancellations.
    6. Ensuring that staff payroll is submitted on time, in accordance with the dates specified by the Recruitment Manager.
    7. Liaising with Head Office in respect of staff pay details.
    8. Managing student pocket money and updating payment ledger accurately.
    9. Working with other Senior Staff to maintain staff and student discipline.
    10. Maintaining control over student security.
    11. Monitoring the MyConcern App and taking responsible and appropriate action where necessary or in consultation with the Bucksmore DSL.
    12. Upon arrival, the CM is responsible for students being allocated to their rooms quickly and efficiently.
    13. Upon departure, CM is responsible for inspecting all the rooms for damage and recording any damages.
    14. Monitoring staff levels and ensuring appropriate staffing levels are maintained, in consultation with the Bucksmore Head Office.
    15. Shutting down the centre at the end of the course, returning all materials and equipment to Head Office.
    16. Providing an end-of-course report to Head Office.
    17. Ensuring all staff receive an appraisal meeting and these are passed to HR at Head Office.
    18. During working hours, devoting their time, attention and abilities to the business and affairs of the centre and not acting in any way that may bring Bucksmore Education into disrepute.

    Qualifications

    • Native or native level English speaker.
    • Management experience in a residential environment with young people such as a school, university, summer school or similar environment.
    • Experience of working with young learners and delivering a programme of study for young learners.
    • Proficiency in standard office software and data management.
    • Experience working with international students, familiarity with cultural differences, and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds.

    Salary and Benefits

Band A: £1,204.88 a week including holiday pay
Band B: £1,107.34 a week including holiday pay
Band C: £997.09 a week including holiday pay

    Accommodation and meals are provided.

Bucksmore pays for the upfront costs of an Enhanced DBS if not on the update service, and then charges approximately 50% (£26.45) which is deducted from the first payroll.

    Safeguarding Commitment

We are committed to providing a world-class, safe, happy environment in which children and young people can thrive and learn. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our pupils where we embrace all races, abilities, religions, genders, and cultures.

All post holders in regulated activity (having regular unsupervised contact with children) are subject to appropriate national and international vetting procedures including satisfactory criminal record checks from both your country of residence/birth and any country of residence within the last 10 years.

We welcome applications from suitably qualified persons from all diverse backgrounds.

Please note, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
