    Job Title: Mechanical Design Intern (16 months)

    Location: Toronto (Richmond Hill), Canada

    Division: Trimble Applanix

    Job Summary:

    Reporting to the H/W team lead and working with various development managers, your primary role will be to aid in various mechanical design aspects for Applanix products including Land, Marine, Airborne and Autonomous systems. You will work in a team environment with electrical and system engineers to design mechanical housings, components and test fixtures for a variety of products. You will also work independently and need to have good knowledge of industry trends and standards to produce creative designs that meet customer and market requirements as well as all regulatory and environmental specifications.

    This internship is a full-time, hybrid role lasting for 16 months. The candidate must be willing and able to fulfill the full-time, hybrid schedule for the entire 16 months.

    Responsibilities:

  • Take part in designing and drafting mechanical parts and housing assemblies for various products based on specifications and design requirements
  • Work with product groups to develop prototypes and design proposals.
  • Work suppliers, vendors and manufacturers to design and fabrication requirements.
  • Provide time and cost estimates to Development Managers to help in project planning.
  • Provide expertise on types of materials and design processes to best suit product and market requirements.
  • Full documentation of all design aspects following engineering processes including testing and certification as well as training production staff as required for final release.
  • Create rapid prototypes using 3D printers.
  • Meet design requirements in terms of regulatory compliance, and testing standards .
  • Qualification:

  • Candidate is a 3rd or 4th Year student working towards a Bachelor's or Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering/Design program.
  • Expertise in SolidWorks 3D CAD software suite.
  • Knowledge of various environmental, dynamics and thermal testing standards for regulatory certification.
  • Creativity in industrial design.
  • Knowledge and working experience with various materials.
  • Some mechanical design experience in a similar industry is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a Team player.
  • Excellent communications skills & independent developer.
