Overview:
The Quality Control Technician is responsible for the sampling and testing of ready mix concrete to ensure the final product meets required specifications.
The position also acts as a front line representative of Lafarge at various work sites and will be required to travel between locations in Central Alberta, plus assist customers with enquiries.
Responsibilities:
Health, Safety and Environment
- Ensuring a safe workplace and maintain safety policies to ensure work is done safety and protection of the public.
- Demonstrates a commitment to a safe work environment. Understands the safety objectives of the organization and supports these efforts in a visible manner.
- Maintains a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.
Quality Control
- Testing of concrete and aggregates to ensure product quality.
- Monitoring pours and working with customers on site to ensure product meets required specifications.
- Evaluating material properties for use in concrete production.
- Troubleshooting problems on project sites and at plants, including field investigations.
- Optimizing concrete production procedures.
- Analyzing and designing concrete mix designs.
- Researching and developing new concrete products.
- Sales and promotion of Lafarge products to customers to maximize profitability.
- Provide technical service to enhance our customers operations.
- Resolve regular customer product problems.
- Continual liaison with plant and suppliers to monitor product(s) and consult on quality.
- Participate in resolution of long term product development and product problems.
- Professionally and tactfully communicate through reports and letters on matters pertaining to product performance and customers.
- Performs other operational duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Good verbal and written English communication skills
- Team player with a willingness to learn and attention to detail
- Excellent organizational and analytical skills

- Selfdisciplined, proactive
- Good presentation skills
- Must be able to work in outdoor and indoor work environments
- Must be physically fit and able to work long hours as required
- Able to perform a variety of tasks, including moderate to heavy lifting
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Civil Engineering diploma or degree
- Minimum 2 years industry experience preferred
- Some experience in construction, manufacturing or similar environment an asset
- Experience in readymix concrete an asset
- May consider a combination of both education & experience
- Will require a Class 5 Drivers License
