    The Opportunity


    We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer who wants more than just ownership of pipelines, you want the opportunity to shape a technical vision, build systems the right way, and grow a team around that vision.

You will play a central role in defining Matador AI's data platform strategy and will be trusted to build, mentor, and scale your own data engineering team over time, setting standards for architecture, quality, and delivery.

    You will work closely with product, AI, and leadership teams, helping turn business needs into scalable, real‑time data systems that power automotive AI products used every day.

    What You'll Do

    • Lead the design, development, and evolution of Kafka‑based data pipelines supporting real‑time and batch workloads
    • Define and own the technical vision for event‑driven and streaming data architectures
    • Build systems that are reliable, scalable, and ready to grow with the company
    • Integrate data from PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and S3‑based storage
    • Containerize services with Docker and deploy via Amazon ECS/ECR
    • Establish observability best practices using ClickHouse, OpenTelemetry, CloudWatch or other data warehouse systems like BigQuery and RedShift.
    • Define and enforce data contracts with Avro/Protobuf and Confluent Schema Registry
    • Improve CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) to ensure safe and repeatable deployments
    • Collaborate with product, AI, and data stakeholders to define SLAs, retention policies, and delivery guarantees
      • >Troubleshoot, optimize, and continuously improve platform performance and resilience
    • Mentor engineers, contribute to hiring, and scale your team while fostering a strong engineering culture
    • Write clear documentation and set standards for data engineering best practices
    • Experience with dbt for data modeling and transformation in a cloud data warehouse.
