JOB DESCRIPTION

Duties:


  • Plans and organizes studies, surveys, audits and research projects of a significant size and
complexity; determines project approach and terms of reference, staff/consultant requirements,
project costs and scheduling; reviews, evaluates and recommends selection of consultants.

  • Acts as a project leader to establish priorities, coordinate the work of assigned staff and
consultants/contractors, resolve issues as they arise during the course of the project, review and
evaluate work and reports for technical acceptability and ensures the successful completion of the
project.

  • Undertakes a variety of research studies including those dealing with emerging environmental
issues; analyzes and evaluates data and results, determines conclusions, assesses options and
develops recommendations for further consideration.

  • Assesses requirements for new and revised environmental programs and processes, evaluates
operational, legislative and policy implications and develops program/process options and
implementation strategies.

  • Leads or participates in internal and external consultation processes with respect to the
assessment of key environmental issues and environmental management strategies.

  • As an environmental specialist, provides technical advice and direction to staff and managers
within the SBUs regarding environmental resource management standards and issues.

  • Prepares and presents complex and sensitive reports pertaining to assigned projects to senior
managers, the Environmental Committee of the Board and external stakeholders.

  • Develops and/or updates corporate Environmental Management System standards and
procedures in response to internal and external requirements and system performance reviews.

  • Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the
job


Qualifications:

***- Completion of a Bachelors degree in environmental sciences or equivalent, plus - 7 years

progressively more responsible experience in the environmental job stream, including experience
- in conducting studies and research projects.

This position is affiliated with the Movement of United Professionals union (MoveUP/COPE).

  • Please note a condition of employment for this job is that you maintain your Class 5 driver's
license in good standing.

  • Majority of time spent in normal office conditions but occasionally conducts field audits and
investigations.

  • This is a Group 11 MoveUP Full-Time Regular (FTR) opportunity, located in Burnaby at our
Edmonds office.

  • As part of the selection process, applicants may be required to take a written test/assessment.
Demonstrated experience with the following will be considered a strong asset for the role.

  • The SAP Environmental Incident Management System (EIMS)
  • Reporting & Analytics using Excel, Tableau, or other analytical tools
  • Quality assurance e.g. environmental incidents in EIMS
  • Excellent computer skills with experience in Excel and Microsoft Project, research and analyst
skills and a good understanding of Information Technology will be an asset.

  • Demonstrated oral, written interpersonal, presentation, leadership and customer service skills.
  • Successful applicant will work effectively as a team member and independently.
  • Good planning, organizational, analytical and problemsolving skills.
  • Courses in data analytics with related experience will be an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the electricity and energy industry and the regulatory/social/
strategic environment within which BC Hydro operates will be an asset.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:

  • Good working knowledge of environmental management principles, processes and standards.
  • Good working knowledge of the relevant legislative requirements and acts.
  • Working knowledge of how to plan, organize and coordinate studies and projects of significant
size and complexity.

  • Ability to conduct research regarding a wide variety of emerging and unusual issues and to
assess data, determine options, develop recommendations and present results.
