Position Summary:


As classrooms continue to become more complex, there's an increased need for Educational Assistants to support the success of students and school communities.


The purpose of the Educational Assistant Internship (EAI) program is to address the provincial shortage of trained EAs by removing geographic, time and financial barriers for people who want to work as EAs.

The program is a paid internship where participants complete a combination of coursework and in-class experience at no cost to the intern.

Interns will also have support of a coach during internship, and the opportunity to learn through sharing trials and triumphs with a cohort of other EA interns.


What to expect during the EAI program:
The program takes place February 12 to May 31, 2024. The internship is a paid placement and is full-time work at a set wage rate of $19.25 per hour.

The hours are 35 hours per week, 7 hours per day, Monday to Friday between the hours of 8 a.m.

and 4 p.m.


For three days a week, participants will be immersed in an inclusive or special needs school setting, working alongside an experienced EA and teacher.

The remaining two days of the work week, participants will be engaging in educational coursework specific to the role of an EA.

Coursework topics may include working with complex behaviours or literacy/numeracy support.


Education/Qualifications:

- high school diploma or equivalent
- experience working with children and adolescents
- experience in a volunteer capacity in an educational environment
- ability to establish effective relationships and build trust with students
- strong interpersonal and communication skills
- ability to perform physical activities including lifting, transferring and providing personal care as necessary


Rate of Pay:
