The Health, Safety and Environment Specialist is responsible for providing the operational leadership necessary to achieve a high level of HSE performance and plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with local safety regulations within Laurentide Controls and its subsidiaries.


Working collaboratively with multiple stakeholders, they will ensure the identification of potential hazards and the development and implementation of health and safety programs to provide safe working conditions for employees.

They will also be responsible for coordinating the employee health and safety committee, ensuring the conduct of health and safety inspections, audits and investigations, as well as the implementation of the health and safety training program for employees.


WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

  • Develop and implement occupational health and safety policies, procedures and programs
  • Responsible for coordinating the various health and safety committees, ensuring that they run efficiently and that their goals are met
  • Develop goals, strategies and actions to mitigate these risks and ensure a rigorous tracking and documentation system for continuous improvement.
  • Act as a senior advisor to the HSE Steering Committee on all HSE related issues and provide advice on how to improve HSE.
  • Coordinate employee HSE training
  • Coordinate the accident/incident tracking and investigation process
  • Responsible for coordinating the emergency management team for major emergencies or events.
  • Conduct spot audits and inspections of various workplaces to ensure compliancy and identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate in the administrative management of HSE and with regulatory agencies

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • University degree in a specialized field related to HSE, or equivalent in human resources or industrial relations
  • 23 years of experience in an industrial setting
  • Strong technical expertise in the areas of hazard identification, workplace inspection, and accident investigation management
  • Knowledge of provincial health and safety regulations, workers compensation and environmental legislation
  • Experience in health, safety and environmental compliance auditing and management systems, and knowledge of ISO, OHSAS and Canadian Standards Association standards considered an asset
  • Bilingual (French and English) in both oral and written form
  • Acts as a resource person for team members
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and synthesis skills, and ability to communicate information
  • Demonstrate sound judgment in making decisions about organizational priorities and stand by those decisions
  • Demonstrate leadership, initiative, flexibility and autonomy
  • Implement, lead and recommend best practices
  • Be able to work overtime or after hours on occasion
  • Ability to travel on occasion
