Description

Function:

Responsible to serve residents' meals in accordance with their individual needs and MOHLTC Standards, Criteria and Guidelines.


Qualifications:


  • Food Handler Certificate
  • Food Service Worker Certificate
  • Read, write and numeracy skills in English
  • Knowledge and understanding of the aging process with a genuine interest in and respect for the elderly and a desire to provide client centred care in a health care facility.

Resident Care:
Dietary Plan


  • Meet the residents' dietary needs and requests for assistance promptly in a courteous and respectful manner that reflects Bethany Lodge's caring and Resident Centered Philosophy.
  • Ensure all residents on your assignment receive assistance with their dietary needs as per their Nursing Care Plan
  • Provide meals according to therapeutic meal menu, monitor intakes, provide information to FSM Dietician and Charge Nurse, as required.

Food Preparation:


  • Read communication book, today's menu and production sheets
  • Clean, peel, slice and trim food stuffs using manual and electric appliances
  • Prepare food, as per assignment
  • Monitor equipment, as per assignment
  • Wash work tables, cupboards, appliances and floors, as per assignment
  • Unpack and store supplies in assigned locations
  • Set, clear and clean tables, replenishing condiments and other supplies, as per assignment
  • Wash dishes, glassware, flatware, pots and pans using dishwasher or by hand, if assigned
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dietary Manager

Administration:


  • Adhere to Bethany Lodge's procedures and practices of resident care in an effective manner according to Bethany's Lodge's Resident Centered Care philosophy and the Resident's Bill of Rights. It is your responsibility to make yourself aware of policies and the Resident's Bill of Rights. You will have orientation in your specific area. Inservices, new policies or policy changes will be communicated to you. Lack of knowledge about a policy is no excuse for non
- adherence and discipline will result.

  • Notify the Dietary Manager well in advance of your shift (at the very least according to the time frame outlined in the collective agreement) if you are going to be absent and alert the her if you have symptoms which could be contagious.
  • You are responsible for informing the Nursing staff of any changes to the resident's dietary habits so that they can be documented and thus be passed on to other staff through reports and the Nursing Care Plan. Actively participate in Quality Assurance Activities including audits, inspections, meetings etc.
  • Follow documentation standards of Bethany Lodge, the Ministry of Health and the Public Health accurately and completely.
  • Be a constant advocate for the residents at Bethany Lodge ensuring that their physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs and wishes are being met safely, and that all care is provided within the resident care philosophy and according to the Resident's Bill of Rights. Any time you witness or suspect resident abuse of any kind you are legally, morally and ethically required to report this or you may be implicated in the abuse.
  • Have a copy of, read and follow completely and accurately the Marquise Job Routine for your assignment.

Communication

  • Communicate to the nursing staff, charge nurse or clinical care coordinator any changes in your residents' condition or concerns about their care.
  • Fully communicate job information to other personnel, and check out information you are not clear about.
  • You are responsible to seek out the required information to accomplish your responsibilities and standards of performance.
  • Refer staff calling in to the Dietary Manager.
  • Maintain total confidentiality regarding resident administration and personnel

Safety and Housekeeping

  • Carry out health and safety programs in accordance with the occupational health and Safety Act of Ontario and follow Bethany Lodge's procedures regarding safety
  • Keep the work area clean and safe at all times, free from hazards,
  • Participate in Risk Management Activities to proactively help to prevent accidents.

Ongoing Education

  • You are required to keep your practice current by attending seminars, presentations, conferences and inservices related to quality food preparation and safety, becoming familiar with the latest trends and theories as they relate to elder care.
  • Completes all annual mandatory education required by legislation and departmental education as assigned
  • You are encouraged to upgrade your credentials
  • Ensure that the Continuing Education binder is kept up to date with your attendance at inservices, mandatory safety presentations, and communicate when you have attended educational opportunities outside of Bethanyso they can be recorded and certificates filed.
