JOB INFORMATION:


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:


  • Disassembly, inspection, overhaul, repair, assembly, fitting and fabrication work on mechanical equipment and the mechanical components of electrical equipment.
  • Fit and assemble new or modified components according to specification and test for proper operation.
  • Carry out modifications to parts and equipment.
  • Set out designs and equipment based on information from blue prints, sketches and/or samples, estimate material requirements; provide measurements; advise if specialized work is required; set up and operate shop equipment.
  • Fabricate drilling and forming jigs, new parts or pieces.
  • Assist Revenue and Security Equipment Maintenance (RSEM) employees with onsite turnstile repairs.
  • Perform work in other sections or work locations at the TTC, as required.
  • Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within the area of responsibility), in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a serviceprovider and an employer.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Completion of Grade 12, technical or its equivalent as defined by the Training & Development Department's guidelines for the assessment of grade 12 technical program, including courses in machine shop practices, or its equivalent through considerable mechanical or machine shop experience.
  • Successful completion of community college level courses approved by the TTC in machine shop practices (encompassing basic safety, hand tool usage, precision measurement, blueprint reading, workshop mathematics, metric/imperial conversion, fraction/decimal conversion, close tolerance fitting), or show proof of equivalent specialized training.
  • Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees.
  • Must provide a set of hand tools as per the established tool list.
This position is designated Safety Sensitive under the TTC's Fitness for Duty Policy.
