Position Description:


Under the direction of the Facility Manager, Building Engineering, the Building Maintenance Person will be responsible for the general maintenance of the interior and exterior of the building and the surrounding grounds, including the parking lots.

In addition, this position will assist the Building Operators, as well as perform independently work related to the daily operations and maintenance of the building.


As a facility, Science World is generally open to the public seven days a week, with some extended evening hours in the summer months.

Typical office hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am - 5:30pm, with front-facing and operational teams also working a variety of shifts including weekends, holidays and evenings.

Hours of work and other related requirements will be scheduled according to business needs, and this may include special events on evenings, weekends and holidays.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide daytoday general building maintenance and repair services. General building maintenance consists of painting, dry wall, flooring, minor furniture/equipment move and repair tasks, landscaping sprinkler system, basic plumbing, electrical and mechanical
  • Work alongside the Building Operators to perform preventative maintenance of the HVAC System, and provide emergency response of the fire alarm system
  • Pickup and delivery of goods and equipment as required in a safe and timely manner
  • Perform other related duties as required to fulfill any changing business needs of this role

Qualifications:


  • A minimum of Grade 12 education is preferred
  • Previous maintenance experience with landscaping sprinkler system, painting, plumbing, electrical, mechanical and light carpentry, preferably within a public facility and/or commercial building environment
  • Basic knowledge of heating, ventilation and air conditioning system is considered an asset
  • Must be familiar with the use of hand and power tools
  • Must have excellent customer service and communication skills with internal and external clients. Able to work in a team environment
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs
  • Valid class 5 BC driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Current hours are Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm, with possibility of rotation. Weekend and evening work is required, as needed
  • Must be able to safely lift 23 kilograms
