Cameron Stephens Mortgage Capital Ltd. ("CSMC") is a leading non-bank lender with offices in downtown Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver. The company was founded in 2004 and currently has a committed loan book of $3.2 billion.

Eighty percent of the loans are funded by institutional investors, and the remaining twenty percent of the loans are funded by private investors.

CSMC specializes in commercial real estate loans, particularly land development loans, construction loans, and commercial mortgages, and employs 50+ people.


Position Overview:


This individual will be responsible for all aspects of the loan funding and servicing process, with support from the Loan Servicing Manager and will be responsible for certain aspects of financial reporting & analysis and will assist in developing new processes and workflows.

The Analyst will join a team with direct mentorship and exposure to senior leadership.

Beyond analytical capabilities, the individual must demonstrate an ability to work well in a dynamic, creative, and entrepreneurial environment and look to grow and add value to the company in the long term.

The Analyst must also ensure financial records, reporting and transaction processing are timely, accurate, well-controlled and compliant with all relevant policies, standards, regulations, and statutory requirements.

Attention to detail is critical for success.


Primary Duties and Accountabilities:


Accounting and Investor Reporting:


  • Provide analysis and support to financial planning, budgeting and forecasting and manage cash flow forecasting for various entities;
  • Assist with ongoing review of accounting policies and procedures with a focus on enhancing efficiencies while maintaining integrity of information and controls;
  • Compile and analyze data for management and regulatory reporting ;
  • Prepare Investor remittances and reporting, including calculation actual internal rate of return (IRR) on repaid loans and mortgage accrued interest;
  • Assist with yearend audit by creating working paper, supporting schedules and analysis as required;
  • Support accounting functions and projects as required, such as completing HST returns, assistance with annual budgeting inputs and analysis; and
  • Update departmental checklists and procedures and maintain internal controls

Loan Servicing & Administration:


  • Set up and maintain accurate information for all loans in the mortgage servicing system, including assigning loan numbers, key borrower and investor information, and loan specific data such as authorized loan amount, interest rates and billing details;
  • Post transactions such as good faith deposits, repayments, final discharges, and fees accurately and timely in the system;
  • Perform monthly postings in the system for account billing, including principal and interest, special charges, letter of credit fees and chargebacks and verify accuracy;
  • Reconcile remittances to ensure consistency with recorded transactions;
  • Prepare the daily deposit reconciliation and ensure all funds are appropriately accounted for;
  • Conduct antimoney laundering searches weekly and report on any records of note to underwriting & funding team;
  • Manage posting for full and partial repayments/discharges in the system while coordinating with the underwriting & funding team; and
  • Oversee letters of credit within the portfolio, including invoicing to borrowers, generating monthly exposure reports and monitoring for risks or concerns and following up with clients for any payment delays

Other:


  • Assist the Director, Finance with annual testing of the Business Continuity Disaster Recovery Plan; and
  • Assist the Director, Finance with annual reviews of various contracts, including insurance, and thirdparty suppliers

Skills and Aptitudes:

  • Experience with accounting & loan servicing software, preferably the Mortgage Office; and
  • Possess a high level of professionalism and integrity while maintaining the confidentiality of all organizational and client related matters

Education:


Required:
CPA or progressing toward CPA; Business or Accounting Degree or equivalent experience.
