About the role
We're looking for a
Loss Control Specialist to join our growing Construction team


What you'll do here:


  • Partner and have joint ownership with Underwriting to select, retain, and grow a profitable book of business.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with Underwriting, Claims, Loss Prevention Specialists, and Brokers to service customers as a unified team.
  • Complete risk assessment evaluations for moderate to high complex accounts with potential for severe losses, multilocation companies, and business with significant exposures.
  • Write technically detailed reports that communicate a clear assessment of risk and effectively articulate recommendations.
  • Ensure a highquality service for our clients and partners through Loss Prevention related consultations and the development and implementation of best practices or tailored service plans.
  • Actively lead or participate in the development and implementation of departmental standards and guidelines.
  • Work in collaboration with members of national loss prevention teams to ensure that our guidelines and highquality service standards are current and well implemented.
  • Provide support to corporate and regional underwriting, marketing, and claims teams.
  • Participate in continuous learning and development activities to improve oneself and share the knowledge with members of national loss prevention teams via assessments or training seminars.
  • Perform quality reviews of internal risk assessment reports.
  • Support management efforts for service improvements.
  • Perform other related responsibilities as directed. Climb ladders and stairs and transition to access building roof areas and multistory buildings. (Frequently)

  • Walking on surfaces that are uneven, wet, icy, and somewhat unstable. (Frequently)
  • Climbing unprotected heights (ladder, rooftop, stairs, loading dock) (Frequently)
  • Ability to travel on short notice.

What you bring to the table:

  • Ability to review and make recommendations on geotechnical reports, including soil reviews, structural building foundation reviews, and structural civil reviews.
  • Ability to review and make recommendations on classifications of various building materials including Exterior Insulation Finishing Systems, Insulated Metal Panels, Insulated Concrete Forms, and Engineered Mass Timber.
  • Technical knowledge of standards and industry practices preferred.
  • Discover and evaluate customer needs through loss analysis and customer readiness to provide Loss Prevention products and services to help control losses.
  • Identify uncontrolled exposures to influence the customer to make improvements and take corrective actions to mitigate the potential for loss.
  • Create a valued customer experience through each assessment and service encounter.
  • High performer who delivers more than what is expected.
  • Provides excellent service by understanding customers' needs.
  • Takes responsibility for own development and is receptive to new challenges.
  • Proficient in the review and analysis of thirdparty risk control and engineering reports.

Education & Other Skills:


  • Bachelor's degree in environmental health and safety, engineering, construction management, basic sciences, and related technical fields
  • Strong level knowledge of the insurance industry
  • Graduate degree in related field.
  • Recognized relevant certifications (such as ASP, CSP, ARM, CRIS, CFPS)
  • OSHA 30 Hr. for Construction (required)
  • 35year minimum Construction Safety Experience (required)
  • Certified Health and Safety Technician Certified (preferred)
  • Certified Safety Professional Certified (preferred)
  • Safety Trains Supervisor for Construction (preferred)
  • OSHA Outreach Trainer for Construction Certified (preferred)
