JOB SUMMARY


Reporting to the Supervisor, System Operations, the Vault Maintenance Technical Specialist is responsible for the inspection, regular maintenance and shutdown coordination of customer owned / Hydro Ottawa owned vaults, switchgear and customer owned substations.

It also supports a wide range of field services for residential, large commercial and industrial customers and provides technical services to other internal divisions.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential responsibilities of the job include but are not necessary restricted to the following:

  • Coordinate all vault maintenance shutdowns with customers, contractors and Hydro Ottawa staff and establish oneself as a front-line representative for all customer needs involving shutdowns, maintenance and information of customer owned vaults and equipment in commercial buildings
  • Prepare estimates for Hydro Ottawa work and ensure that all chargeable "Work for Other" maintenance orders relating to vault are processed according to company policy and procedures.
  • Provide a sales and marketing vision to high voltage customers of Hydro Ottawa's products and services available promoting a proactive approach to the future replacement of customer-owned switchgear and equipment
  • Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with all customers, internal divisions of Hydro Ottawa, and regulatory agencies such as ESA
  • Maintain customer and client relationships with necessary written communications, information and periodic meetings by providing guidelines and promoting maintenance standards
  • Maintain databases of tools and equipment inventory and required maintenance of approximately 2000 high voltage electrical vaults, switchgear and customer substations on an ongoing basis.
  • Ensure Operating Agreements with large customer installations are in place and identify customers that are without agreements.
  • Lead technical investigations and report on failure of customer primary voltage equipment
  • Assist Assets and Planning in developing maintenance cycles for both customer and Hydro Ottawa vault switchgear ensuring OEB inspection cycles are met as prescribed by the Asset Manager.-
  • Provide access and ensure all contractors work in accordance with all regulatory agencies when working in live outdoor substations and vaults.
  • Coordinate and schedule residential, large commercial, and industrial investigations and inspections
  • Provide support in recommending and purchasing technical tools and equipment to help facilitate the vault maintenance program
  • Frequently adjust schedule to accommodate priority calls and meet tight deadlines.
  • Provide notification to ESA about any hazardous field conditions.
  • Analyze data and coordinate necessary field work to resolve customer's power quality problems.
  • Assist co-workers with acquiring field data which may include installing power monitoring equipment to resolve their client's power quality problems, verifying mapping accuracy, equipment information, equipment inspection and equipment nomenclatures.
  • Provide technical training and support for internal and external parties and associates as required
  • Assist co-workers in performing energy consumption audits and power quality analysis, coordinate field investigations (inspections) for large commercial and industrial clients.
  • Provide field support to System Office for issues relating to map accuracies, equipment information, equipment inspections, and equipment nomenclatures
  • Provide design and technical support to internal and external departments and consultants relating to transformer vault design issues
  • Effectively present information (investigation results and recommendations) through use of visual aids (i.e. MS Power Point) to internal and external clients
  • Perform all other duties as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE- OACETT certification as an electrical technician or technologist (preferred power option) and a minimum of three (3) years' experience; or- A journeyperson with 10 years utility experience working around high voltage electrical energized apparatus. Experience using power quality analyzers, power loggers, Electrical Magnetic Field (EMF) meters, radio/TV interference locating equipment, meggaring, oscilloscopes and high voltage test equipment.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS- Valid driver's license - Class G- Government of Canada security clearance
