PURPOSE:


As a team member in the Fleet department, the apprentice heavy duty mechanic troubleshoots, performs repairs, maintains and modifies our extensive fleet of pickups, trailers, heavy haul trucks and equipment in both a shop and service truck.

The apprentice heavy duty mechanic provides support to the senior mechanics to ensure vehicles and equipment are ready to move to project sites when scheduled.


DUTIES:


  • Complete general cleaning of shop facilities including but not limited to inventory sorting, tool organization and daily housekeeping
  • Clean and inspect company vehicles and equipment upon return from field operations
  • Assist in the completion of annual CVIP's
  • Interpret work orders and technical manuals
  • Assist in the diagnosis of faults or malfunctions and the adjustment or replacement of defective parts, components or systems
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure that the completed work meets manufacturers specifications and legislated requirements
  • Complete timely preventative maintenance as required
  • Record required service reports for all completed repairs and maintenance
  • Assist in rigup modifications of new vehicles and trailers
  • Ensure all work is completed according to safe work practices and procedures
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations
  • Other duties as required

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


  • 6+ months of practical mechanical experience
  • Knowledge of industry processes, procedures and policies
  • Heavy equipment experience

EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:


  • High School Diploma
  • Registered Alberta Apprentice for Transport Certification or Heavy Duty Mechanic Certification
  • Class 5 license and clean driver's abstract
  • Overhead Crane Certification
