Nature of the Position
The District of Sechelt is offering a summer student opportunity to join the Parks team.

Under the general direction of the Parks Foreman, the Parks Summer Student will support the Parks department in a wide variety of operational tasks in maintaining streetscapes, trail systems, playgrounds, fields and public gardens.


Duties will include but not be limited to gardening, watering, mulching, operating power equipment such as line trimmers and push mowers, painting, garbage collection and other general labour duties as required.

Essential Competencies

The applicant must be capable of physical labour in an outdoor working environment and be able to push, lift and carry moderately heavy weights.

Applicants must have a professional, responsive, and positive work attitude; and the ability to communicate effectively; the ability to work independently and possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License.

Preferred Competencies

Ability to organize and schedule work independently and work with mínimal supervision; additionally, the capability of establishing working relationships within the District of Sechelt's services.

Working Conditions
This is a temporary, unionized position within the BCGEU. The expected duration of this position is from May 1, 2023 to late August 2023.

The wage for the position is set at $18 per hour plus 9.8% of the straight-time pay in lieu of scheduled vacations, paid holidays, health and welfare benefits and other paid leave.

Hours of work are 37.5 hours per week, including weekends. The District of Sechelt supports employment equity in accordance with the Human Rights Code of BC.
