How will you contribute?

In this role, you will be accountable for developing operational communication strategies and plans for a comprehensive Security Awareness, Education and Training Program for the Senate of Canada.


The incumbent is responsible for:

  • Providing leadership in identifying requirements and providing analysis on security awareness matters;
  • Facilitating working group activities, designing and developing program plans, initiatives, products, tools, etc.;
  • Providing advice and expertise in the use of innovative tools, technology and digital means for advancing ongoing security messaging, sensitivity awareness and training;
  • Supporting all elements of security awareness, education and training shared between the Corporate Security Directorate's (CSD) programs;
  • Participating in and hosting postmortem debriefing sessions following security incidents as well as in the followup to major events; writing reports with analyses and recommendations to strengthen and enhance the security awareness and training program;
  • The development, implementation and delivery of program plans, project frameworks and strategies necessary to address and advance the Senate's priorities for security awareness, education and training on topics including, but not limited to, unauthorized disclosure of information, emergency preparedness, fire prevention, speech privacy, travel security and building evacuations.

Prerequisites

  • Undergraduate university degree in education, communications, marketing, OR an acceptable combination of education, training and experience related to the position's field of work. A certificate in project management is considered an asset, as would experience in a security related environment;
  • Experience in the planning and delivery of training programs, products and tools, with particular emphasis on their implementation and integration in a corporate security context.
  • Experience in the planning and conduct of consultations in regard to awareness, promotion and training requirements, and in the development of operational strategies to address needs across various aspects of the security program.
  • Experience in providing specialist advice in regard to approaches, tools, methods and mechanisms that provide optimal results in achieving awareness, promotion and training objectives;
  • Experience in designing and developing a wide range of awareness, promotional training and communications products;
  • Experience in promulgating corporate security compliance with policies, procedures and practices through the use of various traditional and digital channels, including web and social media;
  • Experience in the building and creation of stories that highlight and support security objectives, and that promote and influence behavioural change through implementing best practices;
  • Experience in overseeing the work of contractors and managing projects and resources;
  • Experience in providing detailed evaluations and assessments of practices and methods used for the enhancement of security awareness, training and education and providing reports and recommendations to upper management for implementation;
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail and ability to compile, analyse, prepare, organize and maintain information in an efficient manner;
  • Demonstrated ability to work simultaneously with different groups in a multidisciplinary environment with conflicting priorities.
