Emergency preparedness is a critical aspect of CCH operations. It is essential that all staff and physicians receive training and understand their roles and responsibilities in this field.


Summary of responsibilities:


Under the direction of the Manager of the Chronic Disease Management Program and under the supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist, the Occupational Therapist Assistant / Physio Therapy Assistant (OTA/PTA), as an active member of the patient care team, works with individuals, families and groups to help educate and promote movement, and function.

The OTA/PTA is responsible for the safe and proficient delivery of activities that have been assigned by the Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist for patients coping with temporary or permanent limitations in movement and daily function.

The OTA/PTA enables patients to meet their expected outcomes by contributing to the implementation and to the modification of Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy programs and services within the program.

The OTA/PTA maintains treatment, storage and group areas, and cleans equipment routinely.


Requirements of the job:

Occupational Therapy Assistant Certificate/Diploma and Physiotherapy Assistant Certificate/Diploma from a recognized Canadian Community College or equivalent
Current BCLS
Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA)
Knowledge of equipment i.e. wheelchair supplies, assistive devices, etc.
Knowledge of pathology of medical conditions related to the rehabilitation field; understanding rehabilitation approach to patient care
Good computer skills
Good oral and written communication skills
Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including computer, fax, and photocopier
Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance
Demonstrated competency in prioritising and completing functions in a work setting
Ability to meet the physical demands of the position


Asset:
Experience with geriatrics or dementia/Alzheimer's
