About the Opportunity:


Reporting to the Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) Manager and Supervisor of the Medical Device Reprocessing Department, the MDR Technician identifies, disassembles, decontaminates, inspects, assembles, processes and distributes reusable supplies to the nursing units, clinics and departments.

The MDR Technician is responsible for providing sterile equipment and supplies to the Surgical Suite, and is responsible for the reprocessing of flexible scopes within the Endoscopy and Operating Room Departments.

All responsibilities are carried out in adherence to professional standards, manufacturer's instructions and departmental policies and procedures.

The MDR Tech ensures that the principles and practices that guide our work at Nova Scotia Health such as the mission, vision, values, expected behaviors, the leadership philosophy, organizational health, population health, ethics, safety, quality, partnerships, and interprofessional collaboration are integrated within the services they provide and through the messages they deliver.


About You:

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • Grade 1
  • Successful completion of an approved MDR Technician Program is required
  • MDR Technician Certification is preferred
  • One (1) year experience in MDR is preferred
  • Knowledge of infection control principles and the sterilization process
  • Computer experience, medical terminology, microbiology, knowledge of infection control measures and practices
  • Ability to work with delicate instruments and to operate large equipment
  • Ability to communicate well with all user departments and work effectively as a team member
  • Ability to demonstrate good problem solving and decision making skills
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time assembling instruments, utensils and sets of instruments
  • Ability to withstand heavy instrument sets and to push/pull carts to and from units
  • Tolerance to preenzymes, detergents, disinfectants and stain removers in the decontamination process
  • Competencies in other languages an asset; French preferred

Hours:


  • Permanent, Fulltime position; 75 hours biweekly
  • Expected to be available for all shifts, including days, evening, weekends, nights and holidays on primary unit or reassigned units
  • Travel to various sites may be required

Compensation and Incentives:

Medical Device Reprocessing Technician
$ $23.84 Hourly

Medical Device Reprocessing Technician-in-Training
$18.45 Hourly
