- Participate in fieldwork including forest inventories, ecological assessments, site plans, and compliance inspections.
- Collaborate with community members and other stakeholders to help integrate traditional ecological knowledge into forestry practices.
- Assist with developing and reviewing forest management plans, including timber development and ecosystem-based planning.
- Support internal review of forestry-related permits, cutting authorities, and forest stewardship plans.
- Help prepare maps, reports, and briefing materials for internal decision-making and external partners.
- Learn and apply relevant provincial legislation, including the Forest and Range Practices Act (FRPA), and become familiar with Indigenous legal frameworks.
- Engage in learning opportunities and training required for RPF registration through Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC).
- Participate in community outreach, field tours, and land-based learning events.
- Contribute to forestry-related research, data collection, and strategic land use initiatives.
- Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Forest Resource Management, or a related field.
- Eligible for registration as a Forester In Training (FIT) with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC).
- Strong interest in Indigenous governance, ecological sustainability, and collaborative land management.
- Some experience with field data collection, GPS, mapping, or GIS is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work respectfully and effectively in cross-cultural environments.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to work in remote, forested areas and in a variety of weather conditions.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License required.

The Forester In Training (FIT) position is an exciting early-career opportunity to grow as a forest professional while supporting the stewardship priorities of CHN. Under the supervision and mentorship of a Registered Professional Forester (RPF), the FIT will gain experience in forest planning, operations, compliance monitoring, and community engagement.
The role is ideal for a recent graduate or emerging professional who is passionate about forestry, Indigenous values, and land-based learning.
