    Overview

  • The Site Supervisor is responsible for the production and maintenance activities at the Caledon Plant which is one of Lafarge's largest sand and gravel operations in Eastern Canada.
  • The Site Supervisor's primary focus is to lead the health and safety of the site.
  • This will be done while leveraging operational excellence to achieve the highest productivity at the lowest cost of production at all stages of the operation.
  • The Site Supervisor will lead by example supporting alignment with all functional groups, including Safety, Environment, Land, and Manufacturing to drive communication and consistency.
  • The Site Supervisor is part of the engagement with our neighbours and local communities to ensure we are viewed as a valued member of the industry and local community.
  • Responsibilities

    Safety Culture:

  • Develop and instill a site level safety culture through consistent engagement with employees and contractors with an objective of "zero" harm;
  • Lead daily huddles and participates on the JHSC to demonstrate commitment to workplace safety;
  • Ensure front line employee compliance to all applicable local and regional health & safety policies and initiatives, including but not limited to hazard reporting, risk assessment, Working at Heights, Confined Space, Energy Isolation and Hot Work;
  • Assist in the preparation for and participation in periodic health & safety site audits; and assist in the administration of the site Contractor Safety Management program, by completing site orientations, where required, and regularly auditing contractor performance to ensure compliance to applicable local and regional health & safety policies.
  • Human Resources:

  • Directly responsible for the individual development, motivation and training of all direct reports to maximize their performance;
  • Responsible for the administration of disciplinary measures in a fair and consistent manner to address / correct substandard performance of all direct reports;
  • Assist in the site hiring process;
  • Assist in the administration and management of local collective and hourly working agreements amongst all direct reports;
  • Promote, develop and drive customer focus, operational efficiency and performance management process within frontline teams;
  • Practice active and passive supervision of frontline teams.
  • Production and Maintenance:

  • Determine manpower requirements and shift scheduling to meet production demands;
  • Establish and manage weekly production and maintenance schedule; Manage and drive meeting daily production targets;
  • Responsible for participating in the short-term planning and execution of maintenance activities along with the maintenance department;
  • Involved in the daily implementation and compliance to the Maintenance Module, including but not limited to creating job plans, completing equipment inspection logs, and managing maintenance backlogs;
  • Oversee maintenance of mobile equipment fleet, including: Completion of mobile equipment inspections and correction of noted deficiencies; External service report review and analysis; Coordinating mobile equipment repairs & maintenance; Tracking work order completion.
  • Oversee the procurement of all subcontractors related to production and mobile equipment.
  • Financial:

  • Assisting in the development and adherence to annual maintenance (repair) budgets;
  • Participate in monthly EBIT reviews to ensure its accuracy and to identify cost reduction opportunities;
  • Responsible to manage production and inventory forecasting to optimize yield and profitability;
  • Support supply chain with balancing inventories and sales needs to manage and minimize the working capital impact.
  • Customer Focus:

  • When required assist in the management of all frontline shipping personnel;
  • Coordinate with sales and dispatch personnel to ensure daily customer requirements are met;
  • Management of stockpile inventories;
  • Coordinate with Quality and Shipping personnel to address shipping quality issues related to production issues.
  • Land:

  • Responsible for short-term planning and execution of activities in accordance with the Mining Plan;
  • Ensures site level compliance to Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) requirements, including but not limited to site plans, rehabilitation and dust control.
  • Environmental:

  • Assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of the site Environmental Management System (EMS);
  • Manages daily water taking data to ensure compliance with Permits to Take Water (PTTW) at all respective sites.
  • Assist in preparation for and participate in environmental site audits; and ensure all direct reports comply with operational standards developed to manage activities and mitigate our environmental impact.
  • Community Relations:

  • Act as the secondary contact with relevant stakeholders in the local community, including neighbours, competitors and government officials.
  • Relationship with Others

  • Reports to Plant Manager
  • Works closely with the ECAN Manufacturing staff to ensure manufacturing best practices and tools are fully utilized at the site
  • Work with the Safety Representatives and JHSC to develop and maintain a culture of safety
  • Works closely with the Supply Chain and Distribution Staff to ensure efficient management of inventories
  • Manages Site Production: Internal Haul, External Haul, and Processing Facility
  • Works closely with Safety, Maintenance, Quality, Land and Environmental personnel.
  • Specific Accountabilities:

  • Annual safety contribution and participation in all leading indicators
  • Weekly operations production and maintenance tracking
  • Monthly financial and operational performance reviews
  • Safety: Daily Huddles, FLRA's, HI's, VPC, Near Miss, MVA's, FA's, MI's, LTI's, , Safety Inspections
  • Land: Dust and Noise control
  • Labor: Shift Schedules, People Development and Management, Union Agreements
  • Production: Manufacturing KPI's, Maintenance management, Daily production sheets & meeting, Primary Crusher report, Blasting, Downtime reports
  • Customer Focus: Shipping & Quality KPI's, Manage Shipping and Stockpiling staff
  • Financial reviews

  • Reports to the Plant Manager
  • 1.5 million tonnes of aggregate production
  • 3 operations, 1 fixed plant, 1 mobile plant, and subcontractors
  • 20 hourly unionized staff
  • Qualification Profile

    Education & Work Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • An undergraduate degree in business, marketing, or engineering.
  • A strong background in digital tools, data management, and computer programming
