Summer Employment Opportunity:

People's Museum Society of/de St. Paul & District


The museum is open from 10 am to 4 pm every day all summer; three staff members are hired to ensure there are always at least two people on shift.

We are looking for applicants between the ages of 16 and 30 to meet Canada Summer Jobs program requirements. We are located on main street just west of the Landing Pad.


Begins:
Flexible, mid-June 2023


Ends:
Flexible, early September 2023. Can accommodate school schedules

Hours: 30 per week, includes some weekends or evenings


Rate:
$17.00/hour


Duties:

Summer staff are responsible for all duties required within the museum and grounds as directed by Summer Student Supervisor with direction from the local Board of Directors.

These individuals are to be

self-motivated and able to work with mínimal supervision.

Duties are varied, and employees have guidelines and personal safety to consider when completing assigned tasks.

  • Tours: It is expected that each visiting group be offered a tour, summer student staff must be familiar with the museum and local history. Some training is provided. The museum has a collection of history books on a range of local topics and encourages staff to spend some time reading to become better informed.
  • Basic groundskeeping: Mowing the lawn, flowers beds maintained and painting, signage as required.
  • Basic janitorial duties: cleaning of displays, sweeping, mopping, maintaining clean restrooms etc. as directed.
  • Administration: Simple accounting for admission fees and sales of history books.
  • Museum recordkeeping: Receiving new artifacts according to our mandate, photographing and recording each artifact in the museum database as it comes in. Scanning of documents to create an electronic backup.
  • Other duties may be assigned by the employment body to meet the changing needs of museum projects.
  • Employees are expected to maintain a healthy and tidy work environment, while working in cooperation with all staff and the public.

Contract length: 9 weeks

$17.00 per hour
