Support the payroll function to prepare multiple payrolls for both union and exempt staff in accordance with collective agreements and relevant legislation;
Perform, manage and process full cycle payrolls, leave forms, and timecards using both an in house live system and online timecard system;
Assist with the launch and continuous support of the Employee Self Service portal and employee data management within the human resource system InfoHR;
Maintains confidential staff records (exempt and unionized staff) and ensures efficient and timely filing of documents, tracks staff/organizational changes
Provide managers and human resources with the most recent accrual data for leaves, overtime hours, and seniority lists as per the relevant collective agreement;
Conducts best practice research for grievances, arbitrations, collective bargaining, and other matters. Analyze various human resource metrics such a turnover, absenteeism data, report on issues and potential impacts
Support the organization in the recruitment and onboarding process for both union and exempt roles, as required;
Assist the department in preparing appropriate communications within human resources and promoting employee understanding of programs, policies and objectives through contribution to the intranet;
In the absence of the Manager of Payroll and Benefits, may be appointed the acting manager.

Experienced in payroll, and human resources with two years of related experience
Educated in a relevant post-secondary program; business administration, accounting, human resources or equivalent from an accredited institution
Knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles

A clear communicator who is professional, approachable, considerate and able to exercise flexibility in balancing changing priorities and accommodating timelines, with a strong sense of detail, initiative, positive mindset, and collaborative attitude.

Very well organized with the strong abilities to self-direct work.

Knowledgeable of programs and practices pertaining to human resources management and labour relations and able to interpret and explain collective agreements and other employment policies and legislation, as well as maintain the security and confidentiality of sensitive information.

Committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace and will create and maintain effective working relationships with others while contributing to a positive team environment.

Technically strong with utilizing payroll and HRIS systems and Microsoft Office with a heavy focus on SharePoint and Excel.
