The Kidney and Metabolism Program strives to provide optimum patient-focused care to all individuals that attend the Ophthalmology Offices.

This results-oriented individual will insure that all day-to-day clinic activities run smoothly, by working collaboratively with the office and diagnostic services personnel.

This is a unique opportunity for the program as this position entails working alongside the St. Michael's Hospital retinal ophthalmologists in managing their patients.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Explain purpose and procedures for tests to patients.
  • Document test results.
  • Maintain patient records.
  • Maintain safe and therapeutic work environment.
  • Complete basic instrument and equipment maintenance; identification of problems and arrangement of repairs.
  • Order supplies and help to maintain equipment, e.g., clean lenses, change bulbs, etc. and assist in the arrangement of servicing when necessary.
  • Provide optimum patient care, along with patient education, and demonstrate a professional manner in the work setting.
  • Research responsibilities include participating in research protocols in collaboration with the Ophthalmologist.
  • Attend conferences and seminars to improve skills, remain current and learn of new techniques and equipment.
  • Office duties as necessary, i.e. pulling and filing charts, answering phones.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate of a postsecondary Ophthalmic Assistant program.
  • Minimum of two (2) years recent ophthalmic experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritize work.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent computer knowledge and experience.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer/patient service.
  • Excellent record of attendance and punctuality.
  • Flexible work hours required (early and/or late start times).
