Role Overview
As a HIPAA Compliance Specialist, you will be responsible for setting up employees on our security software (Vanta), reviewing existing policies, and integrating them to ensure compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other relevant healthcare regulations.
Your role is instrumental in maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of healthcare data, which is paramount in our mission to provide secure solutions to the healthcare industry.
Scope of duties
- Policy Review and Integration: Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to review and update existing HIPAA policies and procedures, ensuring they align with current regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Security Software Implementation: Lead the onboarding process for employees, configuring and deploying our security software tools and solutions designed to safeguard healthcare data.
- Compliance Monitoring: monitor and assess the effectiveness of our HIPAA policies, conducting audits and risk assessments to identify areas for improvement.
- Employee Training: Deliver HIPAA training programs to educate employees on compliance requirements, security protocols, and best practices.
- Incident Response: Work closely with our incident response team to assess and mitigate potential HIPAA breaches, providing guidance on proper reporting and remediation procedures.
- Regulatory Updates: Liaise with our lawyers and security team during each stage of the implementation process, providing regular updates on the project progress.
What you Offer
- Minimum of 3 years HIPAA compliance, auditing, and privacy related experience
- Bachelor's degree in healthcare management, compliance, information security, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Strong knowledge of regulatory compliance issues, HIPAA, HITECH
- Proven experience in HIPAA compliance and policy development within the healthcare industry.
- Experience with Security Compliance Software like Vanta or Darta is a strong asset
- Strong knowledge of healthcare data security and privacy regulations.
- Familiarity with HIPAA risk assessments and audit procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively train and collaborate with employees.
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) or Certified in Healthcare Privacy and Security (CHPS) certification is a plus.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong personal initiative to appropriately manage time, and manage time of others, to meet deadlines
