  • The Harm Reduction Worker (HRW) will provide frontline work at the new Wellness Centre in Chilliwack specific to overseeing a safe injection and inhalation Overdose Prevention Site (OPS). The Wellness Centre will be open 7 days a week, from 7:00 am7:00 pm, serving those facing homelessness, mental health as well as substance use concerns. The HRW will provide a safe, culturally sensitive environment for all guests entering and utilizing the space. The primary role of this position will be to provide a nonjudgmental connection and direct supervision of participants consuming drugs in either an injection or inhalation location at the site. This involves providing harm reduction supply, monitoring participants before, during and after they use, and keeping a clean environment. As harm reduction is one step in the recovery journey, the HRW will also be ready to provide any further treatment guidance or supports to those wanting to alter their relationship with drugs.
This position will have a cultural understanding and trauma informed approach that involves our Indigenous and fellow neighbors. In addition, they will follow PCRS policies, service targets and mandates while assuring the program runs efficiently.

Duties within the HRW position are to assist participants with immediate needs, keep an eye on all participants in and around the center, regularly checking in with participants for safety and potential needs, provide resources as needed, and keep the entire center clean through regular cleaning.

This position will have varied shifts including weekends and evenings.

  • Criminal Record Check including the vulnerable sector.
  • Proof of being fully Vaccinated for Covid 1
  • Demonstrated experience supporting teams working within a crisis environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with those facing homelessness.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with an OPS.
  • Computer skills and administrative capability.

  • B.A. in a related field plus oneyear related experience, or a twoyear diploma in a related field plus two years' experience, or a combination of related work experience/education with those facing homelessness.
  • Additional Assets
  • Mental Health First Aid certification.
  • De-Escalation/Non-Violent Intervention training.
