Position Description


Under the direction of the Facility Manger, the Building Operator is responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day building operation and maintenance of the facilities and surrounding grounds as part of a Building Engineering team.

This role is responsible for monitoring the HVAC & DDC system, facilities repairs and general maintenance of the building.


As a facility, Science World is generally open to the public seven days a week, with some extended evening hours in the summer months.

Typical office hours are Monday to Friday 8:30am - 5:30pm, with front-facing and operational teams also working a variety of shifts including weekends, holidays and evenings.

Hours of work and other related requirements will be scheduled according to business needs and this may include special events on evenings, weekends and holidays.


Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper and timely execution of the Building Management System (DDC) for the HVAC system, lighting, electrical, plumbing, safety systems (fire alarms, sprinklers, emergency lighting, and emergency generator), and other equipment in the building
  • Provide daytoday general building operation and maintenance and repairs based on the work order system. General building maintenance consists of painting, dry wall, flooring, minor furniture/equipment move and repair tasks, landscaping sprinkler system, basic plumbing, basic electrical and mechanical repair
  • Ensure that any installation and repair of equipment complies with local codes and regulations and follows organizational priorities
  • Participate in programs related to OHS compliances for issues related to the building and facility operations, such as mold, indoor air quality, pest control etc.
  • Work collaboratively with the other team members and sharing knowledge
  • Ability to read blueprints, building O&M manual (operation and maintenance) and associated data bases
  • To be able to do oncall for afterhours emergencies related to the building system, fire system and security system on a rotating basis
  • Oversee projects happening in the building and contractors as needed
  • Perform other related duties as required to fulfill any changing business needs of this role

Qualifications

  • A minimum of Grade 12 education
  • A minimum 3 years building operation experience with minimum 5th Class Power Engineer certificate issued by Technical Safety BC. Fourth class power engineer certificate is an asset
  • Must have excellent customer service and communication skills with internal and external clients. Ability to work in a team environment
  • Being detailedoriented, responsible, and passionate personality
  • Proven organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Familiar with EnteliWEB, Encelium, hippos will be an asset
  • Ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
  • Physically able to safely lift at least 23 kilograms
  • Must be willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required
  • Possess a valid class 5 BC driver's license with a clean driving record
This is a unionized position represented by CUPE 1004. The pay range for this position is $60,000 to $65,000 per year.
