    BC Children's Hospital (BCCH) is the only tertiary pediatric institution in British Columbia. BCCH cares for the province's most acutely ill or injured children and youth and pediatric patients with chronic medical disorders. BCCH provides developmental and rehabilitation services to children and youth throughout BC. BCCH offers a wide range of health services and specialized health programs and is a leading acute care teaching facility. The pediatric residency program and 17 pediatric subspecialty training programs are accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. BC Children's Hospital is an accrediting CCMG fellowship clinical & laboratory training center.

    CLINICAL BIOCHEMICAL GENETICIST

    The Division of Biochemical Genetics, Department of Pediatrics, affiliated with UBC seeks a clinical biochemical geneticist with fellowship / subspecialty training or equivalent in clinical biochemical genetics and inborn metabolic disorders (IMD) to join the experienced and dedicated Biochemical Genetics clinical team at BC Children's Hospital.

    The Division of Biochemical Genetics at BC Children's Hospital is the pediatric reference center for inborn metabolic disorders (IMD) in British Columbia and Yukon. The division is actively involved in direct patient care, teaching, clinical and laboratory research related to inborn metabolic disorders.

    The successful applicant will join a clinical team of four biochemical geneticists, three dieticians, two nurses, one social worker and trainees (fellows and residents). The clinical service has close collaboration with the Biochemical Genetics Laboratory and Newborn screening program at BC Children's Hospital.

    The successful candidate will be involved in all activities of the division and support the pursuit of excellence in clinical care, research and teaching.

    The duties of this clinical position include pediatric acute and long-term care of IMD patients and teaching of medical students, residents and fellows. The program is an official CCMG training center and offers a CCMG fellowship training in biochemical genetics. Participation in the on-call schedule of the division is a requirement.

    Candidates must have completed a residency program in pediatrics, or medical genetics, as well as a fellowship / subspecialty or equivalent training in clinical biochemical genetics. The candidate must have documented experience in clinical management of patients with IMD, in the interpretation of biochemical genetics laboratory testing and next generation sequencing technologies. The candidate is expected to participate in clinical and educational programs of the Division of Biochemical Genetics and development of treatment protocols, as part of quality assurance activities.

    The successful candidate must be eligible to obtain a specialist's license via the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC and will be appointed as a Clinical Faculty member at UBC. Faculty rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
