Accounting Technician 1:

The Role:

Reporting to the Finance Supervisor, the Accounting Technician I receives and verifies invoices and requisitions for goods and services and ensures they comply with financial policies and procedures


Primary duties include:

  • Assist with all Accounting Technician responsibilities, taking on important and time consuming routine tasks
  • Cross training in all positions
  • Insuring invoices and requisitions for goods and services comply with financial policies and procedures
  • Preparing and entering batches of invoices for data entry in a timely and accurate manner
  • Completing cheque and electronic file transfer (EFT) runs
  • Reconciling electronic fund deposits
  • Balance cash floats and petty cash
  • Monthly reconciliation of internal office charges and eco card administration

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience:


  • Completion of a twoyear accounting program with one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills and Abilities:


  • Working knowledge of computer hardware and software applicable to basic accounting, Microsoft word and excel, and Adobe PDF pro.
  • Working knowledge of record keeping methods
  • Ability to work effectively on your own and within a team environment
  • Ability to use confidential oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to verify data and run reports in a paperless environment
  • Ability to organize work, set priorities and meet deadlines
  • Ability to display significant detail and accuracy with data
  • Ability to provide helpful and courteous client service
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles and practices
This position falls under the provisions of the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 900. The placement of the Accounting Technician I is at Pay Grade 3, which is $1,906.41 to $2,188.94 biweekly.
