The Universal Group has an exciting opportunity for a Occupational Health and Safety Advisor to join our Occupational Health and Safety team
for a one (1) year contract.

Reporting to the Regional Manager, OHS West, the Occupational Health and Safety Advisor partners with the Occupational Health and Safety group and internal clients to drive forward our purpose of providing Peace of Mind to our clients and our employees.

The Role

What you will do:


  • Support field staff in the safe operation of their duties by visiting sites, advising on safe work behaviours, and review safety protocols with field employees.
  • Complete investigations, report on findings, and administer training or recommend corrective actions, as necessary.
  • Review Health & Safety related paperwork including tailboards, FLRAs, inspections, etc.
  • Assist in the development and communication of Safe Work Practices and Safe Job Procedures.
  • Assess and ensure compliance to applicable safety legislation and internal / client protocols.
  • Assist in the development of Health and Safety performance measures and monitor and report on performance.
  • Facilitate The Universal Group's Injured Worker Engagement Program.
  • Administer first aid when required.
  • Work with our clients to complete project safety plans, hazard assessments, and Risk Registries for Critical Tasks.

Qualifications

  • Work efficiently with mínimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational, planning, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of OH&S laws and regulations, codes, the Workers Compensation Act, and industry best practices.
  • Completion of an OHS Certificate/Diploma Program at an accredited College or University or Construction Safety Officer certification.
  • Minimum of two years in a safety related position.
  • Some traffic management/industrial/construction background is preferred.
  • Possessing a Traffic Control Person (TCP) certification and / or is certified by the BCCSA in COR internal audits is ideal.
Compensation will be commensurate based on qualifications and experience.
