We are currently looking for a Human Resources Business Partner to join our established team in Ottawa on an 18 month term.

Reporting into the Senior Manager, Human Resources & Talent Development, you will provide HR guidance and strategic partnering to client groups to help them achieve their organizational needs.

Our Human Resources Business Partner team are valued, integral members of the business.

The solution space they work in is quite varied and includes a dynamic engineering environment, specialty & functional groups and Information Technology so we are looking for someone who thrives/enjoys switching gears depending on the day.

A typical day could include strategy sessions with business leaders on workforce resourcing, coaching managers on employee relations, administration of various HR activities and collaborating with teammates.

You will also have the opportunity to lead and partner on project work that helps us keep going forward.


A key to success in this role will be a proactive and creative approach to help guide and lead these business areas, demonstrating change management skills.

Communication is important to us so we are looking for a relationship builder with diplomatic, yet effective communication skills. We care about our workforce and their continued career development, so employee development and engagement really matters.

You will have the opportunity to work with both non-bargaining and unionized employees so you will need to have a general understanding and appreciation for labour relations.

If you were in the role today, here is what you might be working on:

  • Provide employee relations support to management and employees including conflict resolution and policy and procedure interpretation
  • Provide daytoday administration and interpretation of collective agreements and company policies & procedures
  • Work with management to support performance management (e.g. career progression, promotions, new assignments, recognition and performance challenges)
  • Provide career development counseling
  • Partner with Senior Management to define and execute on Hi-Potential and Succession plans
  • Provide advice and guidance to managers through workforce restructuring strategies and processes (contract awards, acquisitions, reductions)
  • Collaborate with the Labour Relations Lead on Union related issues and grievances
  • Meet with leaders across client groups to better understand their areas and challenges
Recruitment

  • In collaboration with the Talent Acquisition team, lead recruitment for respective client groups, develop and implement staffing strategies and practices, and participate in interview process
  • Assist Talent Acquisition team with advertising strategy & interviewing and selection processes (when required)
  • Support preparation and participate in career fairs and university competitions (when required)
  • Support internal reassignment and transfers
Total Rewards

  • In collaboration with the Total Rewards team, lead the execution of general salary administration including salary increases and promotion/adjustments throughout the year with client groups
  • Educate business areas on compensation philosophy and salary review process, drawing on the expertise of the Total Rewards team
  • Assist managers in the creation and design of job descriptions
  • Work with the Talent Acquisition and Total Rewards teams to set salary for new hires
Other / Special Projects

  • Develop Business Area specific reports/stats
  • Develop and conduct presentations for support groups and/or internal stakeholders
  • Support HR and/or company initiatives through communications with managers and employees
  • Mentor and/or coach more junior HR staff, and colleagues within the client groups
  • Partner and collaborate with other relevant groups to enhance relationship and resolve issues that extend beyond HR function; involved in development of new processes and procedure

Basic Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Human Resources or other related field
  • Progressive experience in a similar HR Advisor/Generalist/HR Business Partner role
  • Certified Human Resource Professional/Leader (CHRP/L) designation would be considered an asset
  • Previous union experience would be considered an asset
  • Previous experience working on HRrelated projects and the development and implementation of policies and procedures
  • Adept at creating reports and providing analysis of trends in data
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills ability to communicate with all levels of management
  • Strong communication, decision making and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated strength in change management shows motivation and ability to inspire others to embrace change
  • Adaptability
  • Ability to challenge yourself to think outside the box
  • Demonstrated continuous learning
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain C
