South Shore Regional Centre for Education


The South Shore Regional Centre for Education (SSRCE) practices the culturally responsive pedagogy approach in providing an inclusive, diverse, equitable, safe and healthy education that supports learning and success both personally and academically to the 59,000 residents of Lunenburg and Queens Counties, an area of 5,250 square kilometres and a total of 23 schools.

Reports to:
Manager of Information Technology

Rate of Pay:
$58,531/annually


Work Schedule: 7 hours per day, 12 months of the year


Start Date:
Indefinite Term, effective immediately


Qualifications:


  • A degree, diploma or certification in technology.
  • Minimum of three years of relevant work experience in a network administration position or Windows/Linux server environment.
  • Linux certification would be an asset.
  • Virtual Server infrastructure experience an asset.
  • Experience with content management systems like WordPress and Google sites an asset.
  • Certifications such as MCP, MCITP, CCA, CompTIA Security+ considered an asset.

Task Dimensions:

Implements and maintains technical and computer-related information systems used by staff in the South Shore Regional office, and bus garages


For example:

  • Installing and maintaining virtual servers as required.
  • Maintaining physical and logical security of hardware and software including proactive intrusion detection and prevention.
  • Monitoring network security both wired and wireless, maintains appropriate software and hardware to detect and remove harmful viruses.
  • Maintaining network function and service.
  • Performing secure backup and restore functions for all Regional data.
  • Maintaining communication and consistency in practice with the Technology Centre.
  • Responding to problem reports, machine crashes, support requests, hardware failures and power outages in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining systems to be able to respond to these problems within timelines as determined in disaster recovery guidelines.
  • Leading and providing expertise in system usage to the Regional office staff.
  • Maintaining password and group files, VPN and network configurations.
  • Performing hardware and software maintenance and upgrades to the Regional office's laptop and PC computers and associated handheld equipment, including mobile phones as required and maintain current records associated with equipment of RCE office employees.
  • Participating in professional development activities to remain current and knowledgeable of new developments.
  • Actively participating in Regional PSS/Ops technology team meetings.
Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.

Other duties as assigned from time-to-time.
