In-house Legal Counsel - Oakville, Canada - Kraken Sense

Description

Kraken Sense is a biotechnology company that develops an automated pathogen sensing platform, utilizing a cloud-based AI platform and microfluidics-based chip system.

We are expanding our team and looking for an experienced in-house patent counsel to provide legal guidance and support to the company in the areas of patent law, intellectual property, and general legal guidance and support to the company.

• Provide guidance to the research and development team on the development of patentable technology and assist in the identification of potential patent opportunities.
• Provide legal advice and support to Kraken Sense's business units, including research and development, manufacturing, and sales.
• Draft and review various legal documents, such as contracts, agreements, and policies.
• Ensure that Kraken Sense is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
• Manage the company's intellectual property portfolio, including patents, trademarks, and copyrights.
• Conduct patentability and freedomtooperate searches and analyses.
• Work closely with the manufacturing and sales teams to ensure that Kraken Sense's products are not infringing on any thirdparty patents.
• Review and negotiate IPrelated agreements, including licensing and joint development agreements.
• Represent Kraken Sense in legal proceedings related to patent law and intellectual property, including disputes and litigation.
• Collaborate with external legal advisors and consultants as needed.

• Law degree and current membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
• Minimum of 03 years of experience practicing law, preferably inhouse at a technology or biotech company or at a law firm specializing in these areas.
• Strong understanding of Canadian and international laws and regulations related to biotechnology, intellectual property, and privacy.
• Excellent drafting and negotiating skills, with keen attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fastpaced, dynamic environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong business acumen and ability to understand and address business needs.

• Experience with international legal matters.
• Familiarity with US FDA regulations.
• Experience with corporate governance and securities laws.
