    JOB SUMMARY:

    Reporting to the Director, Community Engagement and Programming, the Lead, Adult and Young Adult Programming leads and co-ordinates the planning, development, design, delivery and evaluation of adult and young adult programming for the Library. This position collaborates with other programming leads and branch staff, and leads the Adult and Young Adult Programming team in the identification, development and system-wide delivery of programs; develops and maintains partnerships with community agencies and organizations, and is responsible for providing support, consultative expertise, and direction to public service supervisors and programmers.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1.Support achievement of department goals and objectives.

    a). Working in conjunction with the Director, Community Engagement and Programming (the "Director") and other Lead(s) develops, implements, and administers guidelines and procedures for the development and delivery of adult and young adult programs.

    b). Supports the Director, Community Engagement and Programming in overall library programming strategy and planning, as well as budget development for adult and young adult programming.

    c). Administers the assessment of adult and young adult programs.

    d). Initiates project proposals and makes recommendations regarding the adoption of new practices, standards, and service innovations in response to emerging trends and issues in programs and services to adult and young adult audiences.

    2.Budget management.

    a). Implements, manages, and monitors the adult and young adult programming budget and associated contracts, including approving fee agreements and invoices within the policy structure of RPL.

    3.Coordinate with branch management on the identification, selection, delivery, and assessment of programs.

    a). Advises branch staff on programming priorities and plans.

    b). Works cooperatively with branch management and staff to identify adult and young adult programming needs within the community.

    c). Provides program options to branch management for their selection.

    d). Supports branch management in the evaluation of adult and young adult program delivery.

    4.Supervise the design and coordination of adult and young adult programs.

    a). Supervises a team that includes an Events Coordinator, a Volunteer Coordinator, a Writer in Residence, Programming Assistants and Summer Students.

    b). Leads and administers the development of adult and young adult programs.

    c). Supports the coordination of adult and young adult program delivery.

    5. Initiates, implements, manages, delivers, and evaluates training for library staff in the provision of adult and young adult programming.

    6. Supports community engagement through communication with various people, organizations, and agencies within the community to establish partnerships and promote joint opportunities for programming.

    7. Participates in and/or leads teams within and outside RPL, as assigned, to further RPL's programs and services, and to represent RPL's interests in external activities.

    8. Perform related work as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    1. An ALA accredited Master of Library and Information Studies degree.

    2. Minimum three years professional library experience.

    3. Minimum one-year supervisory experience.

    4. Relevant experience in adult and young adult programming is required.

    5. Demonstrated knowledge of current technology, community engagement practices, and trends and issues related to adult and young adult public library services such as might be gained through experience, education, and professional activities.

    6. Demonstrated commitment to deliver consistent, high quality customer programs and services.

    7. Demonstrated ability to assume responsibility, and perform duties requiring independent judgment, initiative, and discretion.

    8. Demonstrated ability to lead teams in activities to identify, design, plan, coordinate, and deliver programs.

    9. Demonstrated analytical skills and problem-solving ability, including the ability to evaluate, assess and problem-solve using logical, fact-based reasoning.

    10.Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills including public speaking and the delivery of presentations.

    11.Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with the public, staff, and external agencies and to work as the member of a team.
