POSITION PURPOSE
Work directly with plant, office and field-based personnel to drive improved HSE performance in Ontario/New Brunswick/Manitoba. Lead the development and implementation of sustainable safety and environmental programs across the North American Region. Some travel will be carried out by the Regional HSE specialist.

The other tasks will concern the maintenance of safety management systems and the reduction in the frequency and severity of injuries to our people by partnering with functional leaders and staff to analyze problems and successes to optimize future operations.


MAJOR / KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop and institutionalize safety management programs that drive compliance with provincial and CHEP internal policies and procedures; audiences include contractors, CHEP service centres, CHEP employees, Joint Health & Safety Committees. Periodic US travel for meetings and support.
  • Manage claims from the beginning to the end.
  • Ensure that critical training standards for New Employee Orientation, Contractor Management, LOTO, Forklift Operation, and Safe Work Procedures are adhered to.
  • Drive leading indicator safety programs that establish a proactive approach to HSE performance.
  • Ensure that CHEP GAP audit process is fully understood at the plant level.
  • Ensure that corrective actions are dealt with on a timely basis.
  • Work to establish timelines and action closure process on all identified corrective actions arising from investigations, inspections and JHSC recommendations
  • Develop and drive revised standardized environmental practices to ensure consistency with the Code of Conduct and appicable regulations.
  • Develop, maintain, and drive monthly scorecard metrics for CHEP Canada HSE performance; drive through service centre managers and LSC's with establishment of operating procedures and reporting methods.
  • Act as resource for local Joint Heath and Safety Committees.
  • Assist in the development of Standard Work Procedures (Lean).
  • Spend at least 1/3 of time, travelling to other sites within your region to develop OSHE management systems, perform site inspections or assist with accident investigations as requested.
  • Assist with implementing HOP/Safety Differently Principles at the site level.

  • First Aid Reporting (FAT)
  • Near Miss Reporting (NM)

AUTHORITY / DECISION MAKING

  • Schedule followup meetings; generate monthly reports, etc. w/ feedback from Direct Supervisor. Revise plant safety & environmental policies to reflect predetermined changes for review and approval.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post secondary degree in Safety,
  • Minimum of 35 years environmental, health, and/or safety related experience in a manufacturing facility.

EXPERIENCE

  • 35 years working knowledge including safety and environmental management and claim management experience with the Ontario region in Canada.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Computer: Excel, Word, Outlook & Windows
  • Working Knowledge of provincial OHSE Environmental Regulations, in root cause corrective action (ICAM) analysis and to complete Risk Assessments and Safe Work Practices (Standard Work)
  • Ability to drive programs and improvements across a matrix organization
  • Strong interpersonal skills that foster teambuilding and "buyin" of new initiatives and goals at all levels of the organization
