Policy Intern


Are you a student looking for an opportunity to build your policy career over the summer? The
LCBO's Corporate Affairs department is looking for a Policy Intern to assist in implementing policies in the beverage alcohol marketplace.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate Affairs, this position will support
LCBO priorities by providing research, analysis, and support in the development of policy options and briefing materials.

You will have the opportunity to build strong relationships with teams across the
LCBO and develop essential policy skills. If you enjoy providing policy support and advising on legislation, regulations, and corporate policies, then this role is for you

This position is hybrid #LI-Hybrid

About the Role

Policy Development - (30%)

  • Participates in policy development projects to develop knowledge of the government decisionmaking process, understand the role of policy development, and the requirements of a Crown Agency.
  • Provides input on policy recommendations by identifying trends, evaluating options, and considering userfocused and evidencebased solutions.
Research and Analysis - (30%)

  • Conducts research and analysis and monitors emerging issues on matters pertaining to the beverage alcohol marketplace.
  • Uses research tools and methodologies to identify and analyze information to make evidencebased policy recommendations.
Communication and Issues Management - (20%)

  • Contributes to briefing notes, correspondence, issue notes and presentations on
    LCBO policies and programs.
  • Presents information in a clear, concise, and accurate manner through effective written, oral and visual communication.
Relationship Management - (20%)

  • Develops relationships with internal stakeholders, keeps abreast of public policy developments and government and corporate issues related to the
    LCBO, and supports the
    LCBO's desire to drive change and advocate for innovative growth.
  • Works with colleagues across the organization to identify and resolve issues and achieve common goals
About You

  • Working towards Post-Secondary education, Degree, Certificate or Diploma in a relevant field (Public Policy, Public Administration, or a related field Experience)
  • Demonstrated experience conducting research and analysis to identify trends and relevant themes and analyze credible sources of information
  • Knowledge of policy analysis and development techniques
  • Understanding of government processes, policy, and operations
  • Analytical, evaluative, and interpretative skills
  • Ability to build relationships to enable collaboration, with a commitment to deliver the best results
  • Solid judgement and discretion in dealing with highly confidential and sensitive issues
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven adaptability to work effectively in a variety of situations and with various individuals or groups
