Full-time Security Officer.


Security Officers work alongside other team members and will provide a safe and secure environment for our visitors, volunteers, and other Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo staff members.


Schedule Details:


  • Permanent Full-Time
  • Schedule will be Monday to Friday (40 hours a week)

What you will do:


  • Daily interaction with guests, members of the public and other zoo departments
  • Ensure and confirm the physical security of all Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo property
  • Ensures all assigned daily duties, tasks, patrols are carried out as per daily operations procedures
  • Ensures all incidents during the shift are documented and appropriate individuals are notified
  • Is required to wear a variety of personal protective equipment
  • Directs vehicular traffic in busy parking lots
  • Monitors security control centre, including close circuit television (CCTV), card access system, gate controls and building management systems and answers public inquires
  • Performs exterior and interior building patrols
  • Enters all lost and found items and inquiries; releases all retrieved items
  • Writes timely, clear, accurate and concise incident and security reports
  • Detailed and thorough foot and vehicular patrols of a 125Acre site plus off site locations when needed
  • Mechanical system inspections
  • Provides standard first aid
  • Coordinates and participate in searches for lost children and guests
  • Supports the aims and objectives and protect the image of The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo.
  • Reports any facility issues or fire hazards and submits all maintenance
  • Other duties as assigned

What you will bring:


  • 2 to 3 years' experience in a security role
  • High School Diploma
  • Must possess valid Individual Security License as issued by the Government of Alberta
  • Class 5 Driver's License
  • Standard First Aid Certification
  • ProServe & ProTect Certification
  • Good computer skills, including working knowledge of MS Office products
  • Knowledge of CCTV systems
  • Understanding of card access systems
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of building mechanical and life safety systems is an asset
  • Customer service oriented

Working Conditions:


  • Prolonged periods of exposure to the elements
  • Daily ongrounds mobility required
  • Ability to do some heavy lifting up to 50 lbs maximum
  • Periods of high volume and stress


The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is an outdoor facility and all staff working at the zoo must be comfortable working in a large variety of outdoor conditions.
