We are seeking an ambitious, nimble and collaborative Indigenous journalist with a bottomless well of story ideas to join the Meta Canadian Press News Fellowship program.

We are currently seeking expressions of interest from emerging Indigenous journalists in Canada. This fellowship opportunity is open to Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) applicants who are working or seeking work in media, or currently enrolled in a media or journalism program at a Canadian post-secondary institution.

This is a 12-month, full-time temporary position.

This opportunity is open to bilingual (English-French) and unilingual (English or French) applicants. The position will be awarded on merit and could be based in either Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary or Vancouver.

We are looking for a self-starter who is innately curious, works well in a team setting, takes direction and feedback easily, always hits tight deadlines and wants to make an impact.

**General Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the local bureau chief, the successful applicant will:

- Report on a variety of assignments as assigned and become fully integrated in all aspects of all CP editorial operations.
- Produce original content for all CP platforms, including online, print, audio and video (some shift work may be required)
- Take interesting local and regional stories and make them nationally relevant
- Work creatively and concisely under tight deadline pressure in a digital environment
- There are no work requirements directly involving Meta.

**Qualifications**
- A university degree in journalism or related relevant discipline, or relevant related experience.
- Solid writing skills
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with CP style
- Superior research skills and seamless familiarity with social media platforms
- Detail-oriented, with the ability to organize time and workflow effectively
- Audio and video skills are an asset
- Bilingualism is an asset

**About the Meta and Canadian Press News Fellows**

Meta and The Canadian Press are partnering to create these fellowships for journalists to work for CP for a 12-month term. Funded by Meta, the goal of the program is to increase community and regional level reporting on important stories from spot news to issue-driven coverage, presenting national context that explores consequences and solutions around a variety of issues.

**Reporter-rédacteur(trice) - Bourses journalistiques autochtones Meta-Presse Canadienne**

**Description**

Nous sommes à la recherche d'un(e) journaliste autochtone qui fait preuve d'ambition, de vivacité et d'esprit coopératif avec une réserve inépuisable d'idées de reportage pour participer au programme de bourses en journalisme Meta-Presse Canadienne.

Il s'agit d'un poste temporaire à temps plein d'une durée de 12 mois.

La personne idéale sera diplômée d'un programme universitaire de journalisme et/ou d'une discipline pertinente de politique publique, ou possèdera une expérience connexe pertinente. L'objectif du programme est d'accroître le niveau de couverture régionale et communautaire des actualités majeures, allant des nouvelles de dernière heure aux reportages axés sur des enjeux, en présentant un contexte national qui s'attache aux conséquences et solutions entourant divers sujets, y compris les questions autochtones.

La personne choisie sera formée et encadrée afin de s'intégrer pleinement à tous les aspects de la rédaction à la PC. Par souci de clarté, ces postes ne sont pas destinés à couvrir exclusivement les questions autochtones, puisqu'ils prévoient une participation complète aux activités journalistiques d'un bureau de la PC.

Nous sommes à la recherche d'une personne débrouillarde qui est curieuse de nature, travaille bien au sein d'une équipe, accepte facilement les directives et les commentaires, respecte toujours les délais serrés et cherche à se distinguer.

**Responsabilités générales**:
Relevant du chef de bureau local, la personne choisie devra:

- Remplir diverses affectations et s'intégrer pleinement dans tous les aspects des opérations de la rédaction à la PC
- Produire du contenu original pour toutes les plateformes, soit les services en ligne, écrit, audio et vidéo (des quarts de travail pourraient être demandés)
- Rédiger des nouvelles locales et régionales intéressantes à l'intention d'un public national
- Travailler de manière créative et concise sous la pression de délais serrés dans un environnement numérique
- Il n'y a pas d'exigences de travail impliquant directement Meta.
