The opportunity:

The University of Manitoba is looking for an Academic Advisor. The position is part of the team of Academic Advisors housed in the Faculty of Arts General Office.

Faculty of Arts Academic Advisors are trained navigators and translators who guide students throughout their academic careers. Accurate and relevant information is provided in a courteous and timely manner.

Arts Advisors can be counted on as a reliable first contact for any situation a student may encounter during their time at the U of M.

Knowledgeable about the many valuable services available at the University of Manitoba, Arts Academic Advisors reliably refer students looking to enhance their experience or students seeking tools to ensure academic success.


The qualifications and experience we're looking for:

  • University degree required, preferably a Bachelor of Arts.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of directly related administrative and advising experience in a postsecondary institution (preferably in a large Faculty) is required.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Thorough understanding of the Developmental or Appreciative Advising approach to Academic Advising is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Arts Degrees, Programs, and Regulations is required.
  • Demonstrated empathy and caring shown toward all students is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills is required.
  • Ability to effectively speak publicly and to develop presentations is required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that support effective working relationships with students, administrators, faculty, and external stakeholders is required.
  • Creativity and initiative in program design and problem solving is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to cope effectively in stressful situations is required.
  • Indepth knowledge of advanced features of the Microsoft Office suite is required.
  • Attention to detail is required.
  • Ability to work under pressure is required.
  • Display a high degree of analytical thinking.
  • Manage the flow of a large volume of administrative work is required.
  • Able to plan and organize diverse tasks.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently is required.
  • Knowledge of AURORA Student Information system functions preferred.
  • Experience with and knowledge of University of Manitoba Faculty of Arts Degrees, Programs and Regulations preferred.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.

$50,796.20-$71,598.80 per year
